Last week, I had an amazing time presenting at S.D. Spady Career Day for the 1st and 2nd Graders. During my presentation, I organized a fun game where each team of four had to design, draw, purchase materials, and build a structure using LEGOs. The teams consisted of a Project Manager, Engineer, Buyer, and Builder. Only the Project Manager was allowed to communicate with me, the Customer, to receive the assignment of building a bridge and relay it back to their team. Together, they decided on the design, selected the blocks to buy, and constructed the LEGO structure. While the game incorporated a bit of math, its primary focus was on the importance of communication and teamwork. I taught five classes, each lasting 25 minutes, and it gave me a newfound appreciation for teachers. Keeping a class on track while simultaneously catering to individual students can be quite challenging. Teaching is an exhausting job, so I hope all the teachers enjoy their well-deserved summer break.
