I'm encouraged to learn that my story on the harrowing events of last year's K2 summit window has won a Silver Award in the North American Travel Journalists Association's annual Media Travel Awards. Seven months on, Mohammad Hassan's death continues to reverberate around the world. His family is being watched over by an Austrian climber, who posts updates on their well-being via his GoFundMe. Mohammad's friends, the porters who journeyed with him, try to move on with their lives, doing their damnedest to lift their children out of poverty. Soon they must decide if they will face the mountain again. K2 beckons, and the summit window reopens this summer. Huge thanks to the incredible BI editors Cheryl Teh and Kieran Corcoran for their support and guidance for this story, and our Singapore bureau chief Lina Batarags for her help with copy-editing. https://lnkd.in/gekKc5u6 https://lnkd.in/gXGar_8f

4moIt was great to see you take on such an ambitious and daunting story. It was admired across the newsroom and raised the bar for what the Singapore crew can do.
