Embarking on the path of a Mental Health counselor has been a profound adventure. Pursuing my second master’s in counseling has opened doors to incredible opportunities, and gaining hands-on experience counseling individuals and conducting assessments has been an enlightening journey.
Yet, the true magic happened when I stepped into the shoes of the one seeking counseling. A few weeks ago, I became the client, and it was a transformative experience. It allowed me to see the world through their eyes and taught me the power of empathy.
In life, we must strive to be both givers and receivers. As both a student and professor at the City University of New York, I’ve learned that every act of giving is also an act of receiving. It’s crucial to ask ourselves: Have I ever received this? How would I feel receiving this? How would I want to be treated? This simple act reinforces the golden rule: treat others as you wish to be treated.
Counseling isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about becoming the best version of ourselves. Life is a perpetual journey of learning, and every interaction is an opportunity for growth. So, let’s cherish the beauty of both giving and receiving in life’s magnificent cycle. 🌟
