Based on the 2019 global incidence data, we can get a rough estimate of more than 3,500 people being diagnosed with blood cancer every day worldwide. While approximately 30% of patients may find a suitable donor within their family, around 70% will need to find an unrelated one through national and international registries. That's why we should aim towards building a community of donors so every patient has a potential second chance at life. I was faced with the decision of whether to share this on a professional platform, but then it hit me: Why shy away from the realities that shape us? Experiencing the loss of loved ones to cancer is a shared pain that resonates with many. In Greece, a mere 11% of cancers are detected during check-ups.
