It's my 3 year anniversary in the grounds maintenance industry. I'm not gonna lie... It's been tough. I've not hit targets. I've felt like a failure. I've suffered with anxiety. I battled hugely with self-doubt. I've struggled with a new industry. I've been questioned for being different. And at times, I've felt like quitting 😔 But I kept going. Cos I could see the potential. So, I stayed true to me. I adopted my approach to sales. I took my time to build relations. I brought the real me networking. I encouraged authenticity. I'm so glad I did cos... I love the industry. I love the people. I love my job. And to top things off... I'm helping make a difference in the FM industry with my awesome FM Connect tribe 💙 Pish times have a way of crushing us at the time... But they can fuel our fire 🔥

☀ Celebrating Resilience: From Illness to Opportunity. ☀ 📖 My Journey: For over a year, I battled an unexpected illness with unwavering determination. The odds were against me, but I persisted. Today, I’m thrilled to share that my journey has led me to a new opportunity—a role as a File Clerk at Smith Automotive Group-Nissan 🚗 of Morrow. 🔑 Lesson Learned: When I lost my vision while sitting at my computer Nov 2022 (at my previous job) and was later diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes after being hospitalized for 4 days, told I would have to stabilize my glucose before my sight returned, my life took an unexpected turn. However, I’m grateful to God that there were sacrifices made on my behalf to ensure my recovery. The love and support fueled my resilience. 💪 1. Perseverance: I learned that setbacks are steppingstones. Each day I fought, I grew strong. 2. Adaptability: Living with illness taught me to adapt, find new ways and embrace change. 3. Community: My journey wasn’t solitary. Family, friends, and mentors rallied around me reminding me that we’re strong together. ☀ New Beginnings: Joining Nissan of Morrow feels like a sunrise after a storm. As a File Clerk, I’ll organize, manage, and contribute to the heartbeat of the company. 📂 🙏 Gratitude: I’m grateful for every step—the tough ones, the tearful ones, and the triumphant ones. This week instead of a Wednesday Hot Job Update, I thought I'd share a few things I enjoy about working at Singer Vehicle Design HQ in Torrance, California: 🌟 First and foremost, is the all-star People Services team that I get to be a part of (picture below of about half of our team). 🚗 How cool is it that I get to see these beautiful cars every single day?! I also like seeing them progress through the production process. ✨ The absolute passion that everyone has here about cars, attention to detail, and the Relentless Pursuit of Excellence is unmatched. 💭 Being around innovation and forward thinking daily is truly inspiring. We're always pushing ourselves to new limits, while maintaining our heritage. 💡 Never a dull day; I like that I get to support every team from production to engineering, to supply chain to client experience in their hiring efforts. 🙋♀️ I learn something new every day, whether it's about automotive, recruiting, myself or my team. 🍫 The free lunches and snacks keep me fueled for busy work days. How to get Lucky? 🤔     While working at BKC office, I have seen many people reaching office all sweaty and pissed from their exhaustive train-bus journey and then there are a few folks who reach office building in their luxury cars.   In such situations, some can get jealous and blame it on their luck, but it is important to understand that Luck is a weird thing, if you don’t get it, you can always create it.   Now these ways might not necessarily get you a Ferrari or a rolls Royce but it sure can get you that interview or a side gig you need.   Here are simple yet effective ways to enhance/create your Luck   1.         Know what you want – This will help you be focused on the goal.   2.         Know your worth, in other words, have faith in yourself – This is the most important step in ‘The Process of Getting Lucky’   3.         Go out and make genuine friends, connections – Being at the right time at the right place is important. This also means there will be a lot of ‘Not the right time’ events for you but attend them anyway.   4.         Keep working on your skill sets – If you want to act, join acting classes. If you want to write, do a course on writing.     5.         Keep trying irrespective of the results – This means, even if you fail, TRY. This will increase your probability of getting lucky. Wanted to take a moment and reflect on this past year. Opportunity is the best way to put it. I got out of the Army on Nov 8, 2022. I was genuinely worried what the world had to offer. I was initially given the opportunity to work at Power Home Remodeling and learned a lot. Although brief, I learned a lot about sales and home ownership in the process. I left the company due to a scheduling issue because it took away what I valued most which is 'time'. The office was an hour away and the hours were not ideal...for me. At this company you can make a TON of money but it requires a grit and determination and an enormous amount of time dedicated to the job that did not align with what was important to me. I have an enormous amount of respect for those folks knocking on your doors and respect for sales as it is a tough business to be in. I was able to take a month off before I found my next opportunity. Within that month I was able to truly find what made me happy. My family and my health. I took on the #75hardchallenge and after 8 attempts, completed the challenge. It helped reshape my mindsight and learn what real discipline was, a form of discipline that the Army did not teach me (even at 32 I'm still maturing). I have reshaped my mind in a way to win at life. I started to read more about stoicism, sales psychology, discipline, and many other topics and found a new love for reading which I have learned more about life. I am going to redo the 75 hard challenge once again and then complete the remaining phases on my second go around so I am looking forward to that. I was able to find a career path that makes me genuinely happy. Supply Chain. Whoda thunk lol. I started at PPG as a Raw Material Coordinator with PPG on April 24th of this year. I LOVE this job and I have little to no complaints about the company itself. The schedule allows me to live my life, spend more time with my family, work on my goals and it pays the bills. My management team is awesome, my first line supervisor is very knowledgeable and makes coming to work worth it. The plant I work at is filled with hard working Americans and I love it. The job is challenging and has its obstacles but I genuinely enjoy it. So to sum it up, Opportunity has been the forefront of this year: -More time with my family and giving them the attention and support they deserve. -More time to work on my mind and body. -A new career path that i wanted to get into when i was in college but at the time the army was my priority -finding a new love of reading and the value that it brings I am looking forward to what 2024 brings with my new mind set and I cannot wait to knock out some more goals. #oneppg #ppgproud #supplychainmanagement #supplychainplanning

However the family business took me in (which is funny as I clearly hated having a briefcase as a school bag) and I truly ❤️ what I do in automotive, which is a job that is almost 100% occupied by a man. The best advice I have for my younger self is the advice my father gave me. - Our business is all about people. Be good to our customers and look after our people, knowing they have to look after their people/families. - Learn about all aspects of the business you are in. Be brilliant at the basics but understand how everything interlinks around your role. - Some of the best decisions you will make will be to say “No” - And of the decisions you say “Yes” to, be sure and get more right than wrong (sounds v basic but when the decisions get bigger and bigger, it really does carry a lot of importance). - Follow your instincts. - Have loads of fun. I'm thrilled to announce our self-designed, self-built shipping container cabin project - a dream come true! These last 30 months have been about juggling full-time jobs and this ambitious project. Sacrificing social gatherings and family time, we navigated a packed schedule. It's been a rewarding journey, particularly in honing my sales skills. From negotiating for materials and handling budgets to adapting strategies amid challenges, this project demanded full engagement. There were times when quitting seemed easier. But the mutual support between Austin Schachtner and me was extraordinary. We've learned the essence of teamwork and perseverance. Now, looking at our finished cabin, it represents not just our craftsmanship but our evolution - both in our careers and personally. This cabin is a testament to our ability to dream, plan, and execute meticulously - crucial skills in sales and life. As the year ends, consider this: what seems impossible isn't. Our cabin's journey is proof. Dream boldly, face challenges head-on, and turn the impossible into reality.
