I wanted to wish all of my professional peers a happy American Independence Day, and to remind everyone how lucky we are that our forefathers had the insights to lay the groundwork for where we are today. Nothing is perfect, and trials where freedom is, will strengthen. As professionsals, we begin each fiscal year with a new set of goals. Back in 1787, our forefathers did the same, and laid these out in what became the preamble of our Constitution. Essentially, the “objectives” of our governments foundation. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.". Take it to heart. Take it to work. Take it to sleep. These are critical objectives that we must strive to drive with passion in our work and home lives. Don’t tread on these objectives. Happy Independence Day!

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the United States of America and its separation from British rule. The Declaration, primarily drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was a bold assertion of the colonies' desire for freedom and self-governance. It laid the foundation for a nation built on principles of liberty, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Over the years, the Fourth of July has become a day of unity and celebration, filled with fireworks, parades, and gatherings. Remembering is more than not Forgetting. “Without Memorial Day, there is no other holiday.” Joe Mantegna Let that quote sink in. There is a complex irony to the celebration of Memorial Day. It is an irony that requires reflection to be appreciated. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and represented a haphazard way to honor American war dead by placing flowers upon their graves. The evolution into Memorial Day transformed it into a celebration that looks simultaneously at the sadness of past ultimate sacrifice and the hope of a future pleasant summer of joy. With its combination of sadness and joy, past and future It defines perspective. Our Republic is going through a time of troubles. We have done so in the past. By nature, young people live in the present. Their lives are filled with activities driven by compliance and mollified by the need to establish independence. The process of teaching, interaction, and experience that parenting and educational institutions create is by and large less an environment in which the energy of the present can be channeled to benefit from the expertise of the past to help create the better future. The abdication of this responsibility to a commitment to mediocrity of thought amplified by assigning no implications to actions is a sign of social rust. So, as we celebrate this Memorial Day, let the gratitude for the sacrifices of the past that allow us to craft a better future abound. It is more of a responsibility than a gift.

Memorial Day is one of the most important days we recognize as citizens of the United States of America. This quote by Harry S. Truman helps us understand that it is our duty to reflect on and express our gratitude for the service of those who have fought to protect our rights and freedoms. Many individuals have given their lives to enshrine the daily comforts and feelings of happiness we are able to enjoy, and we should never take this for granted. Originally, this day celebrated the end of the Civil War, but it now acts as a solemn reminder of all that we have fought for as a nation throughout our proud history: freedom, liberty, democracy, and fairness. Pausing regular life to remember the sacrifices of those who came before and celebrating all that we have yet to do as a great nation is one small way to show our understanding of the complex and painful histories we represent as a nation. When so much of the world is experiencing so much grief, we owe it to ourselves to reflect on our own past and all that we have worked together to protect and provide for the citizens of the United States. This Memorial Day, as we enjoy the beginning of summer, let us also solemnly consider our ongoing responsibility to uphold and fight for those values that comprise this beautiful country: freedom, fairness, and equality for all. #memorialday #freedom #equalityforall

Does our allegiance reside with power and patriotism, or does it rest with the people? For what it's worth, my thoughts as a retired military officer follow: Why draw imaginary lines where none are needed? Our allegiance, in my mind, should be with the living, doing our very best to serve and care for life ... every life. Only in this way, through love and compassion, shall we, as one family, share in the days of peace that await us. Flags, patriotism, and all the stuff we associate with misplaced and misguided power plays do little more than build walls that divide us when humanity should, instead, be very busy building bridges. A child, therefore, should be afforded equal opportunity to align their 'allegiance' as they see fit, not as others dictate. To take the opportunity away is no worse (or better) than mandating recitation of allegiance. The world is made of many peoples, none better or worse than ourselves. Let us, therefore, pledge ourselves to making their lives more gentle. Instead of beating each other up and killing one another's children in the name of politic, power, and patriotism, let us, instead tackle problems that affect us all. In so doing, we make life gentler for all. Whatever we do, let us do it determined to bring justice, freedom, unity, decency, acceptance, love, understanding, and respect to everyone.

Today we observe the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, which occurred on 13th February 2008. We acknowledge the sorrow and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, whose children were forcibly taken from their families, and recognise the importance of today in the healing journey. 248 years ago the United States reinstated a core principle and a central pillar of our western civilization. The Declaration that “All Men Are Created Equal” – made July 4th, 1776 one of most celebrated days in our recent history. This is when the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence announcing the colonies’ separation from Great Britain. By marking their victory, the United States hailed the highest human virtues of respect, equality and inclusion, while waving the flag of liberties and chanting the songs of freedom. They showed to the humanity the importance of what is divine in the life of humans – a country called home, built on solid principles, on open minds and generous debate of ideas. The American Dream was watered with hard work and a spirit of vivid competition. Barely anyone has better featured that than President Ronald Reagan who said “We are a nation of freedom, living under God, believing all citizens must have the opportunity to grow, create wealth, and build a better life for those who follow. If we live up to those moral values, we can keep the American dream alive for our children and our grandchildren, and America will remain mankind’s best hope.” The obsession for Freedom, the principles of Dignity and Respect, the core value of Hard Work and the invincible desire to win any obstacle that blurs these pillars – has made United States a model to follow and a friend to all.
