My Favorite Childhood Memories from the Military Barracks
Growing up in the barracks was a unique adventure, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and valuable life lessons.
Every day was a new escapade. We fetched water from the well, swept the yards together and helped with laundry too. Most of the kids attended the same school, church, and shopped in the mammy market all within the Barracks
In the evenings, we built clay houses, used broken bottles for lighting, and gathered under the moon to share stories, play games, and have dancing competitions.
But life in the barracks wasn't all fun and games. We learned to navigate the occasional conflicts between mothers and the importance of unity in the face of adversity.
Our close-knit community taught me the value of collaboration, support, and resourcefulness. We made the most of what we had, like turning broken bottles into lamps and creating hair accessories from grass braids. some learnt how to make hair by braiding the grasses at the front yard.
Those memories of building clay houses, playing together, and dancing under the stars are etched in my heart.
The motto "Onward Together" was more than just a phrase , it was a way of life.
