Our portfolio company Talus Renewables has partnered with Kenya Nut Company Ltd to install the first commercial modular green ammonia system to enable cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable fertilizer production.
Kenya Nut Company Ltd’s CEO, Graeme Rust, hosted Kenyan Principal Secretary of Agriculture The Honorable Jonathan Mueke at our site at Morendat Farm.
We are thrilled to collaborate with farmers and the government to expand our network of modular green ammonia systems. This initiative will boost local production of this essential raw material, making fertilizer more affordable, accessible, reliable, and sustainable.
In Viet Nam’s Mekong Delta, an innovative collaboration of the World Bank Group and local agribusinesses and farmers is driving greener, more resilient farming practices. This initiative has helped the region cut input use by 50%, increased earnings by 30%, and reduced CO2 emissions by 1.5 million tons annually.
IFC - International Finance Corporation is proud to contribute to this effort through our work with key agribusiness players in the country such as TAN LONG GROUP. By assisting these businesses in implementing sustainable farming practices, our partnerships are aimed to lower production costs and reduce post-harvest loss, which ensures a safe, low-carbon and high-quality rice supply chain for the region.

Hon Cornelly Serem, Chairman of the Board at AFA Kenya, brings an impactful message to the forefront of the Sugar Industry Innovation Symposium.
The call to action is clear: To revolutionize Kenya's sugar sector, we must integrate technology and innovation throughout the entire value chain. The recent cane shortage, which left mills operating under capacity and resulted in a deficit in production, serves as a wake-up call.
To combat these issues, a comprehensive strategy is essential. This includes bolstering research, encouraging crops development, enforcing contractual farming, exploring diversification and value addition, and committing to environmental sustainability.
Building the capacity of our smallholder farmers is not just a goal but a necessity to enable the adoption of modern technologies and practices. Quality seed cane and improved sugarcane varieties are our tickets to a Quality-based cane payment system.
The Chairman's vision is clear: A reliable supply chain and optimized production will be the foundation of our journey to self-sufficiency in sugar production.
Join us in sowing the seeds of tech and innovation for a stronger, sweeter tomorrow!

Fish Feed Distribution and Market Accessibility: Challenges for Small-Scale Farmers in East Africa
Fish feed distribution and market accessibility remain significant challenges for small-scale farmers in East Africa. These issues hinder the growth of their aquaculture businesses and limit their potential to contribute to food security and economic development in the region.
#BEYONDAGRIC
For decades, the United States produced the bulk of its food through industrial agriculture; this is a system dominated by large farms growing the same crops year after year, using enormous amounts of chemical pesticides and fertilizers that damage the soil, water, air, and climate.
It was reported that this system was not built to last, because it squanders and degrades the resources it depends on.
But a growing number of innovative farmers and scientists took a different path, moving toward a farming system that is more sustainable—environmentally, economically, and socially.
This system has room for farms of all sizes, producing a diverse range of foods, fibers, and fuels adapted to local conditions and regional markets.
Incidentally, these new US systems have been the basis of Farming in most parts of Nigeria with environmental and eco-friendly operations.
Now, drawing Insights from President Adesina, could the way Farmers are presented in movies be why you aren't keen on associating or practicing Farming?
I am running a Program and started a research on blending Farming with creatives to invite Corporate Executives and Children to embrace a fundamental source and basic human necessity - Food.
Trust to invite your contributions sooner as we address Sustainability and Food Security in uncertain times.

🌱 Embracing Value Addition in Agriculture 🚜
It's disheartening to hear that tomato farmers across Africa are facing challenges in finding markets for their produce, leading to significant post-harvest losses. 🍅 In the spirit of fostering sustainable solutions, let's explore ways to mitigate this issue and empower our farmers.
🌍 Localized Processing Units:
Establishing small-scale processing units in proximity to farming communities can help transform excess harvest into value-added products, reducing reliance on distant markets.
📊 Market Intelligence:
Encourage the adoption of technology to provide farmers with real-time market insights. This empowers them to make informed decisions, aligning their production with market demands.
🤝 Collaborative Initiatives:
Strengthening collaborations within the agricultural value chain can foster synergies. This includes partnerships between farmers, processors, distributors, and retailers to optimize the entire supply chain.
🌐 Access to Finance:
Facilitate financial support for farmers to invest in post-harvest infrastructure such as cold storage, packaging, and transportation. This enhances their capacity to store and transport produce effectively.
🌱 Training and Education:
Provide training programs to farmers on best post-harvest handling practices. Knowledge empowerment is key in minimizing losses and ensuring the quality of the produce.
Let's rally together to champion these initiatives and create a sustainable food ecosystem in Africa. By adding value to our agricultural chain, we not only reduce wastage but also empower our farmers for long-term success. 🌾💚

In July 2023, Palatehub embarked on the "Building Resilience Against Climate and Environmental Shocks" (BRACE) program by African Food Changemakers to benchmark our climate-smart initiatives. Committed to efficiency and sustainability in agriculture, the decision reflected our dedication to navigating environmental challenges.
BRACE, a three-month capacity development initiative, focused on climate change awareness, mitigation strategies, and sustainable agribusiness scaling. Palatehub's participation, led by Co-Founder Opeyemi Alaran, translated into actionable insights for our Ginger Farming Division, emphasizing sustainable practices and reducing food loss.
With the conclusion of BRACE 2023, Palatehub extends heartfelt thanks to African Food Changemakers. The program not only benchmarked our activities but provided practical insights, shaping our approach to climate-resilient agriculture. Excited to implement these learnings, we look forward to contributing to a more resilient and climate-smart agribusiness landscape in Nigeria.

🌱 "Did you know? Chickens can sometimes get a bit agitated when they encounter something new or unfamiliar, just like navigating Lagos traffic during rush hour! They need time to adjust and feel comfortable in their surroundings. At U-Farm Africa, we get it – change takes time. Let's cultivate progress together for a more 'danfo'-free future in Nigerian agriculture. 🌾🚀 #EmbraceChange#SustainableAgriNaija#UFarmAfrica"
In the heart of Nigeria’s verdant landscapes, where agriculture is both a livelihood and a heritage, a quiet revolution is taking root. Regenerative agriculture, a holistic farming approach that seeks to restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and combat climate change, is gaining momentum among Nigerian farmers. As the country grapples with the twin challenges of food security and environmental degradation, this innovative practice offers a promising path forward.
Nigeria, with its vast arable land and diverse ecosystems, should be a powerhouse of agricultural production. However, years of conventional farming practices, marked by heavy reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, have led to significant soil degradation. This has not only reduced crop yields but also made the land more vulnerable to climate shocks such as droughts and floods.
