It’s a wrap! 🎬 Project “Estonia-Kenya Twin Transition Ecosystem Building” has come to a successful end. Here are some highlights and findings from our exciting journey: 🧐 A comprehensive assessment of Kenya's digital-cleantech landscape was carried out, examining its history history, current status, and enablers, as well as the opportunities and challenges to Kenya's cleantech development. ⚡️ The findings indicate that Kenya's digital-cleantech sector, though nascent, ranks among Africa's leading startup ecosystems. The country is also a notable player in climate action, especially in renewable energy sectors like wind and solar. Key sectors to watch out for going into the future include agri-tech, renewable energy, and waste management. You can download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dgCWPuYe 💬 A new LinkedIn group for bringing together members of the Estonian and Kenyan digital-cleantech ecosystems was launced on December 15 in a hybrid event. "Estonia-Kenya Cleantech Hub" aims to empower collaboration and info sharing between the two countries. 👫 In September, we flew out to Kenya to engage with our project partners, connect with local stakeholders, and forge relationships for the future. Likewise, in November, our Kenyan partners travelled to Estonia, where we introduced them to the vibrant Estonian cleantech ecosystem. A big thank you goes out to partners from Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) - Ernest Chitechi, Vincent Ogaya, Christine Mbaabu, EMMANUEL YAHUMA, and John Musyoka. CLEANTECH SCALEUP: THE KEY TO NET ZERO PROSPERITY Cleantech remains vital to the public debate! In this time, when our country’s commitments to Net Zero are under threat, we are grateful to the Times for featuring us in this piece published yesterday. Some frame the green transition as inherently opposed to economic prosperity and affordable living. Provided that the Government acts to support the mass deployment of disruptive clean technologies, nothing could be further from the truth. We would be able to bring down, for example energy prices, as well as offer gainful employment to thousands of British workers, in well-paid cleantech jobs. It’s certainly a timely discussion. Last evening’s speech by the Prime Minister offered a mixed bag. Speeding up energy infrastructure, getting rid of the queue for grid connections and bringing forward proposals for a spatial plan for grid infrastructure: All this is very good to see. At the same time, targets are only reliable if we stick to them, and unless we push on matters such as energy efficiency now, people will continue to feel the pain of high energy bills for far longer than necessary. New oil and gas is not free – and instead of paying for more emissions, we should invest that money in making the UK a global leader in clean technology deployment. It’s not an either/or: there’s no choice between economic prosperity, growth and Net Zero. The cleantech community, made up by dedicated investors and passionate innovators, continues to develop groundbreaking solutions across a plethora of industrial sectors. Now, long-term, reliable Government support is needed to keep this next generation of industrial champions in the UK. That’s how we reach Net Zero without punting target deadlines: by revitalising our clean economy.

🌏 𝐈𝐧 2050 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 🌏 I am deeply grateful to ESG Summit Europe and Óscar Delgado Barrientos for taking a glimpse on the cleantech state of play and our work at Cleantech for Iberia in this interview. I've much enjoyed sharing insights on the work of coalition members like FertigHy and other topics like: 🏭 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 in Europe, which is shifting. The current trend towards deindustrialization in Germany contrasts the reindustrialization potential in the Iberian Peninsula, which is already a superpower in clean energy, has progressive targes fueling cleantech growth, an emerging hydrogen ecosystem and a well-developed industrial base. 🌎 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 as a non-stop battle. The cost of action – roughly 5% of the global GDP – is much lower than the cost of inaction. Meaningful action requires policymakers, big financial institutions and corporate executives to innovate and align with the speed and scale that is proportionate to the crisis we are facing. 🤳 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 #𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 is cross-sectorial and working in siloes is simply not an option anymore. ❓𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞 for our cleantech #industry. We now need to double-down and boldly support our home-grown cleantech innovators. In a more and more defensive global economy, for companies to truly benefit from their home market, stay competitive and lead the clean transition, we need #regulation which is fit-for-purpose . 📄 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚 #𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨 for the 2024 EU elections. Our coalition unties the voices of leading investors, innovators, universities, incubators, banks, NGOs and policymakers supporting cleantech as the solution to the current confluence of crises. We view our cleantech strengths as our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reindustrialize Spain and Portugal, leveraging durable jobs, massive investments, placing citizen well-being in the driver’s seat. 📊 𝐄𝐔 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧 #𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 is a crucial milestone in Europe’s energy transition. But let’s not sugarcoat it: addressing climate change will be the hardest thing humanity has ever had to do and these measures might feel cumbersome and bureaucratic to large corporates. They also make a dent in making Europe’s economy sustainable and competitive. 📃 𝐄𝐒𝐆: As soon as you reach the local or regional level, #ESG criteria becomes more concrete. We need a whole-of-society-approach . It’s Zero Emissions Day - a chance for each one of us to reflect on the impact that our actions have on the planet and to focus on ways to do better, reducing our carbon footprint. Our future is as sustainable as we make it, together. Renantis' energy plants, which are powered by renewable sources, allow us to contribute to the energy transition: in 2022 we avoided 0.53 MtCO2eq of GHG (Green House Gases) emissions thanks to 3,061 GWh of renewable energy produced.
