The Focus of this event is on Learning and Networking.... The Entrepreneur Summit offers privately-held businesses an opportunity to engage in one-on-one meetings with more than 250 investor groups—including private equity firms, family offices, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds. These investor groups collectively focus on all industries and investment types and, in aggregate, manage trillions in global assets. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the private equity alternative and receive specific insights from professional investors. Even organizations with no near-term plans to transact may also find The Entrepreneur Summit to be a valuable learning and networking experience. Deloitte will collect detailed post-conference feedback from the investor groups based on every meeting they attend and coordinate appropriate follow-up dialogue. All investor groups execute a non-disclosure agreement as part of the registration process that precludes them from contacting companies after the conference without a specific invitation to do so. Ever wonder why David Rubenstein has been so successful - successful enough to build The Carlyle Group and buy the Baltimore Orioles? I know what you’re thinking – does Laura Neuman really know David Rubenstein. I met him in 2001, along with a bunch of entrepreneurs and influencers when I was invited to The Carlyle Group meeting in Napa Valley. His company gave me a term sheet to lead the financing round in my company. During negotiations, I was invited to this private event of Carlyle portfolio companies. I showed up in Napa for the multi-day event and had an amazing experience learning and leading. It was engaging, high level, and I met some really cool people. David Rubenstein was one of them. As you can see in the photo, Secretary of State James Baker was one of them too. Here are the (truncated) timeless lessons David Rubenstein shared on how he runs his own company: ·     Keep ego in check. ·     Share the wealth with the entire team. ·     Front office and back office are equally important. ·     Enjoy the work you’re doing. ·     Share the credit internally. ·     Avoid bureaucracy, make quick decisions, and have flat decisions-making. ·     Prepare for the next generation of leadership. ·     Maintain vision of the firm and communicate it constantly. ·     Create and maintain a one-firm culture and avoid cliques. ·     Recruit and retain the best people, make sure the firm is a career instead of a short-term position. ·     Work to keep everyone on the same team, avoid divide and conquer. ·     The bottom line is about building solid companies and working closely with management, while maintaining high quality and an ethical reputation. Taking your own medicine!   I strongly believe that every business should be a consumer of its own products and services. After all, if you claim it will benefit your customers, why wouldn’t it work for you? And maybe more importantly, you’ll be able to answer your customer’s question “Are you using it yourself? with a “Yes!” instead of “No” or “Not sure”.   Therefore, it was a true pleasure to support the Dutch EY International Tax and Transactions Services team this month with the design of their 2030 strategic roadmap, leveraging EY’s 7 Drivers of Growth. The strategy framework which is truly unique as it’s completely based on the learnings from market leading entrepreneurial businesses from around the world and across industries.   Having defined their bold 2030 ambitions, ITTS set out to develop a truly inspirational strategic transformation plan to achieve their ambitions. The Leadership team took the bold decision to leverage the creativity and the power of diversity by involving ALL 180 ITTS colleagues in this process.   This resulted in the largest 7 Drivers of Growth in-person workshop ever.
