Wow, so happy to be in Chicago at the Midwest Solar Expo this week to talk about my favorite subject: the customer-led #solar revolution. I spoke with Nico Johnson of Suncast Media NICO JOHNSON 🎙️ about the shining example #Illinois shows to the rest of us on bolstering a thriving solar industry, creating workforce development opportunities and putting customers in the driver's seat for their own energy choices. But like with all revolutions, more must be done to continue to move forward. Looking on the horizon, I hope to see Illinois join fellow leaders like #Maryland, #Colorado, #Texas and #California in creating a #VirtualPowerPlant that harnesses the collective power of home solar and batteries to provide greater resilience to the grid, and lowers costs for all residents. Sunrun stands ready to help using our expertise gained by running the largest #VirtualPowerPlant in the country two years in a row. This summer, we’ve networked together more than 16,000 customers’ batteries to provide critical energy to California’s grid. We reached a big milestone last week: five million solar installations in the United States. Ninety-seven percent of those installations are on rooftops. And another proud fact: nearly one in five of those rooftop solar installations is a Sunrun customer. What a huge accomplishment! That’s why now, more than ever, we need to leverage every resource we have available for a resilient, affordable grid.
