When you drive down the road and see one of the huge tower cranes working hard to pull a building out of the ground from seemingly nothing, do you think about it? What does that crane represent? It is a symbol of progress, a belief in the future. You don't just build something because you like playing with concrete and steel. You have been planning and working for years to find the right spot to put the right structure. You anticipate demand for what you believe to be a successful endeavor. The crane count has been a way to measure the building momentum of a city – from Tampa to Austin to Seattle. Taken over time, the number of cranes erected show a forward-leaning investment in the future of a city. If it is rising, people believe that over a period of years in the future the growth will fill the buildings with new families and businesses. How does this relate to you? The crane's movements, lifting and placing one beam at a time, reflect the incremental steps we take in our personal and professional lives. Each beam represents a milestone, a challenge you've overcome, or a lesson learned. Just as cities expand and modernize, so do our interests and goals, and the crane serves as a reminder that growth is a deliberate and ever changing process, requiring patience, resilience, and a vision for the future.

This is a great representation of why I don’t badmouth competitors. They’re made up of people. Beautiful, messy, wonderful, purpose-driven people. In this example: The JE Dunn Construction Superintendent on our Wichita Biomedical Campus joint venture project organized a prayer circle at the jobsite. We prayed for the project, the neighborhood, and the people who will teach and learn and work in the finished building. While JE Dunn is a partner on this project, they’re a competitor on many others. One of many competitor architecture, construction, facility services, energy services and real estate development firms. In fact, the more ways we serve clients at Hutton, the more competitors we accumulate! At the heart of those firms are people with pretty much all the same hopes and dreams: To provide for themselves and their families, to find purpose in their work, to connect with others. Each one has a story that very likely involves everything from joy and triumph to grief and tragedy. And sometimes we’re lucky enough to get to know each other on a deeper level and I’m *always* grateful when I do. Like Tim at JE Dunn and all the others from Dunn who were there with me and my Hutton colleagues and many of our families — to pray together. (For a great read on the topic of competitors, follow Ben Hutton and scroll down a couple of months.)

Great collaboration among West Virginia University, WVDOT, and the steel industry, bringing innovation for Critical Infrastructure that can be applied not only for these two bridge replacements in WV, but others, “The students’ work will benefit residents of West Virginia as well as other states where their work will impact practice.” Kinnami is collaborating on a project for “Data Infrastructure for Critical Infrastructure” with the University of Nebraska and the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center. The focus of Phase 1 of this project was to build a resilient data fabric that could securely collect, analyze and share sensor data collected from bridges in real-time. Phase 2, completed in 2023, featured a limited deployment on both public and private bridges in Nebraska and New Hampshire for real-time monitoring and structural health analysis. This phase established best practices for integrating tools and sharing information across public and private entities. Phase 3 is currently underway and Kinnami aims to expand our software capabilities in a number of areas: #scalability supporting #AdvancedAnalytics #UserFriendlyTools #ResilientData
