More than 15% of people in the UK are neurodivergent (ND), and any organisation of a fair size is likely to have neurodiversity within their workforce. Though it’s generally considered a disability, people with a neurodivergent brain have been known to possess higher-than-average skills in terms of memory, creativity and lateral thinking. I am one of the 15% and I am fantastic at seeing connections others don't and joining the dots. However, for years I didn't value this is a skill but measured myself by other people's yardstick & beat myself up for being a failure. A lot of things have fallen into place for me since my ADHD diagnosis in 2022 & while I have no regrets, I do wish I had known sooner so I could have learned to acknowledge and love these skills & measure myself by my own yard stick. The Neurodiversity in Business (NiB) conference is an ideal opportunity to find out more about ND and how we can create win-win scenarios for businesses and individuals to thrive & grow together! In the meantime, please take time, no matter how big or small your business to: * Educate yourself & understand how many & who in your workforce are ND * Learn about their ND & adjust your workplace to the different types * Be willing to make changes, e.g. flexible hours, alter environments, or longer deadlines. * Encourage open discussion within your workplace – ask your employees how you might be able to help on a day-to-day basis & how they can help each other. Hi, friends. Recently, #IBTTA has been experimenting with Open Space, a meeting format in which the participants define the agenda and self-organize to discuss the issues most important to them. We conducted a small experiment with 20 individuals during our Technology Summit in Indianapolis in April. Next, we conducted a larger event involving all 200+ delegates at our Maintenance Workshop in Nashville in July. People appreciated the many productive conversations they were able to have to solve real-world problems. As a follow up to the meeting, we produced a short 4 minute 24 second video that describes what Open Space is about and some of the outcomes people came away with in Nashville. We plan to use Open Space at more IBTTA events in the future.
