For some countries it’ll mean a complete economic restructuring (I’m looking at you Australia), whilst for others it’ll mean their dominance is likely to continue for even longer (I’m looking at you America). Either way, smart investors will carefully consider the implications of such a fundamental change and adjust or reinforce their portfolios accordingly…

To all #GovernmentAffairs professionals out there - you matter! ....with a twist at the end... Really recommending this piece by Stuart Hudson. I agree that Government Affairs functions are gaining a new relevance in light of the increasing geopolitical instabilities but also growing impacts of policies and regulations on how businesses operate. On the other hand, companies are increasingly aware of their role in society and that they need to contribute to its continuous advancement and well-being. While effective government affairs functions are not new, they are still rarely fully connected with the other strategic corporate functions or business unit leaderships. Based on my corporate experience, when this happens, then businesses will start to understand why they need to involve their GA professionals in their strategic business planning, not only at corporate level, but across the different business units. And to my fellow lobbysts out there, particularly when you work for a corporation, it is up to you to go the extra mile to win over the trust of a skeptical business group president or plant manager, being humble enough to show a keen interest to understand their business, the shopfloor issues and their commercial pressures. The results of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) 2023 Q4 Quarterly Economic Survey show that business confidence improved, with 56% of UK businesses expecting an increase in turnover in the next twelve months. Despite this, most firms continue to report no improvement to sales, cash flow or investment.
