💥 BIG NEWS: We've sequestered our first ton of CO2! 💥 At Paebbl, our goal is to restore the planet’s carbon balance by 1 Gigaton (a billion tons) of CO2 by 2050. We turn gaseous CO2 into solid-state CO3, while generating heat in the process. This solid carbonate is then inset into decarbonizing the built environment. Today we are thrilled to announce that we’ve reached a major milestone: we have mineralised our first ton of CO2 at our pilot facility, and turned it into decarbonised raw materials for use in the built environment. While the journey is only 0.0000001% complete, celebrating these small successes is crucial while keeping our eyes on the big goal ahead. Today we take a moment to celebrate not just reaching the first major milestone, but all the work behind the scenes. Some behind the scenes accomplishment we haven’t been too public about: ✅ set up our bench-scale reactor in record time in the midst of supply chain chaos right as the world moved on from Covid to the Ukraine crisis. ✅ scaled 100x from bench to pilot only 6 months later. ✅ relentlessly worked close to the market to understand where to focus our product development efforts. Why is this important? Because for every ton of CO2 that we permanently turn to CO3, we produce ca 3x the volume of rock powder. It is essential that we respect and prioritise our planet’s needs through our product and commercial roadmap. ✅ gotten some of the world’s most ambitious companies and research institutions to partner with us to advance #CDR through the built environment. ✅ started re-imagining how #processengineering is done to scale process technology to meet the timeline needs of our planet. (Because let’s face it: the way it’s been done for the past 50yrs wont cut it timewise to meet the Paris targets). ✅ had a lot of fun, created more memories than we can count. 🎯 This year’s challenge is to launch our next scale-up step in industry record time. Our demo plant will be at ca 1ktCO2pa capacity, and 10x bigger than our pilot facility. The next step is to plan for our FOAK commercial plant, to be launched by 2028. We are immensely grateful to our amazing 30-strong Paebblers* for all the hard work that has gone into making Paebbl’s vision a reality (or at least as a start the first 0.0000001% of the way there) thus far. The challenge ahead of us (as Paebbl, the construction industry  and as the 🌍) is immense. And we are very very late as a society to start really stepping up to face climate change.
