During the pandemic, pet lovers spent more of their time with their furry friends.
As work environments continue to evolve post-pandemic, one of the trends that has emerged is the rise in dog-friendly offices, seen last year at Slaughter and May, which held a "Bring Your Dog to Work Day".
Alison Coleman explores "How Office Dogs Can Be Catalysts Of Creativity" for Forbes.
The data, derived from a University of Lincoln 2019 study, suggests that there may be potential benefits to opening up our offices to canines in particular:
🐶 22% of employees who bring their dogs to work reported higher rates of satisfaction with their working conditions
🐶 33.4% reported increased absorption in their work
🐶 14.4% reported an overall increase in work engagement
The presence of dogs in the office may, for example:
🐶 Lower #stress levels
🐶 Boost morale
🐶 Increase productivity
On the #wellbeing front, having to step out briefly to walk a dog encourages employees to take breaks during the working day, allowing them to stay active, and return recharged and refreshed.
Any pet-friendly #arbitration offices out there?
Does having your pet around help to improve your wellbeing?
Feel free to share your photographs of feline 🐱, canine 🐶, equine 🐴, piscine 🐟, murine 🐭, and avian 🦜 companions observing the practice of arbitration alongside their owners.
However, before implementing a cat or dog-friendly office policy in the interests of employee wellbeing, spare a thought for those in the office who may be allergic to pet dander, or simply terrified of dogs (that includes YOUR dog), cats, rodents, birds, and other members of the animal kingdom.
Stress relief for some should not come at the price of increased stress for others, so if you intend to give this trend a try, make sure that you consult with your team in advance, take steps to ensure that dogs or other animals do not take over your office, provide pet-free spaces for those (including clients) with phobias or allergies, and be sensitive to both your team members and any pets that join your workforce.
