How often do you look at your ads and think: “Why aren’t these crushing it”? If your answer is “all the time” many brands struggle with this too. And it’s confusing because you: - have a good script - have the right creator - the format is on point - your on site is 💯 - it’s clear So why aren’t the ads performing? Any ideas? It’s definitely not the targeting. And no guys - it’s not the hook. It’s so much more. Let's say you think the best actor of all time is Owen Wilson. You think his acting ability is 11/10, and whenever his movies come on you can't help but watch the whole thing. You love those golden locks and baby blues. And you love the way he says “waow”. Some (myself included) would think you're clinically insane. Now picture yourself attending an interactive movie expo in Los Angeles. You're attending with 500 other movie buffs and they're doing an icebreaker. **cringe** You’re suddenly and unexpectedly handed the microphone... "Tell everyone who your favorite actor is!”, says the host. Your heart is thumping like a quick drum. Owen isn't considered an excellent actor in almost every circle. Especially this one. Should you say what you truly feel? Or should you say an actor you know is more popular? In a brief moment. You muster up the courage to speak your mind.. ..."Leonardo DiCaprio", you say… ..safely... “Consumers don’t think how they feel. They don’t say what they think and they don’t do what they say.” — David Ogilvy That’s why your ads aren't working. Your research is based on skewed voice of the customer data. But you're kind of okay with crappy results. Selfishly, you don’t care as much about the customer's problems as much as how you envision your brand. That research you think "sounds like your brand" is too far off from what your customers really want. And it's spread like a cancer across your scripts, ad copy, website copy, creator choice, and all the actions you take. You've lost any possibility of great results because you're getting in your own way. The quality of research for your brand is the foundation of how well you penetrate the market. And it should be based on indirect voice of customer data. A quick Google search of <<your customer’s problems>> and a few scrolls will lead you to: - Subreddits - Quora - Forums - Niche specific affiliate sites We have a saying at Alpha Inbound that aligns with what our best performing clients results, and it goes like this: "if it sells, it's on brand." And something else we've realized is our best clients are 1000% open to new things. In fact, they're actively seeking new avenues and ways they can sell more product more efficiently. Just as much as we are for them. That's the brand owner you should strive to be. You can worry about brand later.
