Kicking off the day MAD//FEST with my state of nation for the industry: 1. Marketing must be the epicentre for growth as Philippa Tilley from Unilever called it recently. o In an economy that has been rather stunted for growth the creative industries and the service industries continue to show positive growth o Being bold continues to be critical – what to pay attention to, what not and how to leverage the new tools and technologies in service of incremental growth o Beyond advertising/marketing – leverage culture and ways to provide ral value through ‘product’ o Martech and Adtech continues to grow exponentially but interestingly it is also increasingly converging – Rise of the Data Cloud, 1st party data in a data privacy environment , enabling scaled data movement, synchronization, democratisation and collaboration 2. Commerce/Retail Media is even more center stage than it was last year o Partly the Data Cloud/1P data revolution o Insight around propensity to purchase and understanding of when/where surpasses classic media owner insight BUT equally RMN’s lack daily, lifestyle data so new opportunity for partnership o Shifting commercial r/ships between two of biggest categories of advertisers – Retail & CPG. Building MEDIA businesses at scale that need to work IN HARMONY with being a retailer and customer experience 3. AI is not something to fear but embrace o Will drive more fundamental change than the www and mobile because it is a new form of intelligence – if used well abundance, ethics are key o More marketing and media use cases emerging every week o Augmentation of us as creative marketers – not just automation and efficiency but improved insights and ideation o Speed to market opportunity for smaller brands/agencies o The CMO MUST embrace technology or risk losing further control to IT o Now is the time to PLAY & EXPERIMENT and to UNLEARN GROWTH comes from being bold, knowing what you stand for, where you play and don’t, how you enhance experience and utility for customers and prospects through creativity and by leaning into new technologies and opportunities.
