To reduce resistance to necessary changes and foster greater commitment from various sectors and stakeholders involved in this challenge, the IICA proposes an approach in its document "On 'Broken' Food Systems and Other Narratives." This approach considers not only the costs but also the benefits of the current functioning of these systems and suggests changing the narrative from "broken systems" to one that considers "the true value of food." The study was presented at the Global Agribusiness Forum (GAF), part of the Global Agribusiness Festival in São Paulo, the world's largest agribusiness event organized by Datagro, which brought together around 12,000 people from the sector, including public managers and politicians. 📰👇
Transformation of food systems should start from the true value of food, and not by considering them "broken" systems, says IICA study presented in Brazil

Achieving #zerohunger requires a holistic approach, and educators and young people, as key stakeholders, can significantly contribute to building a sustainable and resilient food future. Educators and young people play crucial roles in achieving #zerohunger by promoting awareness, education, and sustainable practices: 1. Education and Awareness: Educators: Can incorporate lessons on food security, sustainable agriculture, and the importance of reducing food waste into their curriculum. By instilling knowledge and awareness, educators empower students to make informed choices. Young People: Through educational initiatives, young people gain an understanding of the complexities of food security and the interconnectedness of global food systems. This awareness is vital for fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. 2. Sustainable Agricultural Practices: Educators: Can teach sustainable agricultural practices that prioritise soil health, efficient water use, and biodiversity conservation. These practices contribute to the long-term health of agricultural systems. Young People: Getting involved in community gardens, local agriculture projects, or even school-based initiatives, young people can actively participate in sustainable agriculture and contribute to local food production. 3. Advocacy and Community Engagement: Educators: Can encourage students to engage in advocacy for policies that support sustainable and equitable food systems. Educators can also involve students in community projects addressing local food challenges. Young People: Advocacy by young people can influence local and national policies related to food security. Their engagement in community-driven initiatives contributes to creating resilient and sustainable food systems. 4. Technology and Innovation: Educators: Introducing students to innovative technologies in agriculture and food production fosters interest and understanding. Educators can inspire the next generation of agricultural innovators. Young People: Embracing technology and innovation, young people can contribute fresh ideas to improve agricultural practices, reduce waste, and enhance distribution networks. 5. Collaboration and Partnerships: Educators: By fostering collaboration with local communities, businesses, and NGOs, educators create opportunities for students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Young People: Actively participating in partnerships and collaborations allows young people to amplify their impact, share ideas, and work collectively towards sustainable solutions for hunger. #ZeroHunger #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSecurity #YouthEngagement #SDG2 #FoodSystems #ClimateSmartAgriculture #GlobalGoals #YouthLeadership #AgTech #FoodJustice #FutureFarmers #EducationForChange #YouthInAction #FarmToTable #SustainabilityEducation #HungerFreeWorld cc Daniel Foster Melanie Miller Foster #EmpowerYouth #FoodWaste #YouthEmpowerment

Today, the agriculture sector faces pressure from the highly inflationary market as prices for inputs like fertilizer, feed, and fuel remain elevated leading to increased food prices affecting not only the Philippines but globally as well. While there has been improvements in food inflation at the national level, with data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showing that food inflation further slowed down from 9.5% in March 2023 to 8% in April, it is still relevantly higher than the reported stats of 4% in April 2022. The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, with PPSA as an advocacy partner, recognizes the vital role that the sector plays in ensuring food and nutrition security as well as economic growth of the country. It is in this context that the Chamber is hosting this year’s Sustainable Agriculture Forum with the theme, “Agriculture for the Future: Innovating Agri-Food Systems to Accelerate Food Security”. Now on its sixth run, the Forum aims to conduct high-level discussions on major issues relating to the competitiveness, sustainability, and productivity of the Philippine agriculture sector. It also aims to identify the gaps and opportunities through topical sessions to address the growing issue of food inflation and achieve the goals of the event. Join us on 7 September, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with key stakeholders as we unpack the current challenges and opportunities of the agriculture sector, as well as the plans and programs of the Marcos administration for one of the key priority sectors of the country. Great post by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) “Top 10 ways to reduce food loss: lessons from the field”. Linking farmers to markets is #2 after mobilizing finance – and both are key focus areas for team Agromovil. Better market matching are needed at scale between farmer and buyer, between inputs suppliers and small producers. Better matching MEANS less product waste, less wasted effort – more of the food the world needs. Time to make those matches, putting more food, more efficiently, on the tables of a hungry world… To learn more visit the link below.
