Happy President’s Day! Have you taken pause to reflect on how far we’ve come as a modern society? It’s quickly forgotten the role that time plays not only in our memories but truly, in every facet of life. Having the ability to read and write were once considered cornerstones of educational achievement whereas in 2022, roughly 40% of American adults had a bachelors degree. The world of today looks vastly different than the world of yesterday and you don’t have to be Nostradamus to predict it’ll look quite different in the future as well. On this President’s Day, let’s look to the past, recognize how far we’ve come, and then tighten our shoes to prepare for the journey forward. One thing is for certain though: Education is the most important subject which we as a people can be engaged in.

Bristol explores three related research strands: (1) the role of educational policies in shaping teacher workplace experiences and retention; (2) district and school-based professional learning communities; (3) the role of race and gender in educational settings.

Seeing my name on the honor roll resulted from late nights making the 11:59 PM deadline with 30 seconds left, tackling tricky problems, and sacrificing time for study sessions. Making the honor roll wasn't just about grades; it was about discipline, pushing beyond limits, and discovering hidden resilience. The feeling of validation ignited confidence that I could tackle anything I set my mind. Making the honor roll was a tapestry woven with threads of encouragement, support, and friendly competition. Ultimately, it wasn't just about achieving but the journey, the climb, the struggle, and the lessons learned. Stay tuned for the subsequent chapter presidents list.

I am approaching my 5th anniversary as an adjunct instructor in a local university, teaching international relations and political science. This note is to encourage anybody that has the time and/or capability to seek opportunities to get involved in higher education. To me, it is rewarding, invigorating, and challenging. Even if you do not have the chance to teach, there are numerous ways you can be involved and have an influence. These include being a mentor, organizational sponsor to an academic department, supporter to an athlete or team, guest lecturer, or club advisor. Remember that many undergraduates are trying to “figure things out,” and any practical experience you can offer will be well received. If you don’t have any contacts at a local university, consider researching a particular department or organization and then reaching out to the respective leader, my sense is the university will appreciate this. Albert Einstein said it best: “The value of a college education is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think.” I believe many more of us can contribute to this vision.
