Election Reality Check! You will often hear the competing political parties make statements such as they are committed to spending £1 billion on this and that. Now, a billion pounds might sound like all the money in the world!!! However, not to be a Debbie-downer, but please bear in mind there are 70 million of us. So, they are actually talking about £14. Despite their pronouncements and protestations it ain’t gonna change the world. BUT, notwithstanding, do please get out and vote for whoever you think is best placed to address the country’s needs. #politicians #spin #reality #realitycheck #GE2024

With the #GeneralElection underway, all eyes will be on the pledges made by the parties. But political promises are more complex than many people think. At the start of the Twentieth Century politicians campaigned on broad statements of principle but by the end there was an expectation that parties would produce highly detailed, costed manifestos. In this book we explain how and why the change came about. https://rb.gy/3nxe6m. #GE2024

It's been a turbulent few years, with impacts still being felt across the whole economy. Despite how safe or negative (or random - looking at you, Ed Davey) the various political party campaigns have been, this election feels like one of those big crucial moments for the country. Whatever side of the political spectrum they fall on, people want change and expect whoever is in government tomorrow to deliver it. So, make your voice heard today - vote and bring about the change you want to see 🗳️ ❎ #GeneralElection2024 #GE2024

Truss ? Braverman? Ideological extremism is the common thread. Articulated under the now rendered ‘means all things to all political parties’ ideological usage of the ubiquitous mantra of ‘economic growth’ being the determining imperative for good government these days. There’s truth in it. But the devil is in the detail. WHO will the purpose, morality, objectives, & major beneficiaries of economic growth. Be? Who will economic growth be designed & delivered for? Billionaires? Millionaires? Or the rest of us? Hope we find out soon. Preferably before the imminent election. https://lnkd.in/eD_J_qR5

"In the run up to the election and beyond, we urge political leaders to listen to people's experiences and design a compassionate and fair system that works for everyone. This must begin with ensuring benefits adequately cover essential living costs and abolishing ineffective measures like the two-child limit and sanctions. People across the UK want a system that supports and reassures anyone struggling to get by - a system we can all be proud of.” ~ Thomas Lawson, CEO at Turn2us #GE2024 #GeneralElection2024 #GetTheSystemWorking

There will be a few tired eyes this morning among those who stayed up to see the results coming through, and maybe even an element of surprise. Not so much due to the win, but at the scale of the Labour Party's victory in #election2024. In the run-up to the election, we had the fortune of working with and meeting key figures within Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and ministers from both main political parties. This included members of net zero select committees and the newly elected Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes North, Chris Curtis, who spoke at our scaling net zero in housing event ahead of the launch of Wondrwall ESC. The key takeaway from our engagement was that, despite the immense challenge for the new government to maintain fiscal responsibility while addressing our climate, energy and housing challenges, there were grounds for optimism. In all the discussions that took place, it was recognised that the new build sector will play a vital role in stimulating economic growth while supporting our efforts in all these key areas. Only time will tell whether the new government will be able to live up to its pre-election commitments, such as keeping mortgage rates as low as possible and delivering 1.5 million new homes. One thing is certain though: our political system and the British voting public has given the new government a mandate to deliver their manifesto, and partners in the housebuilding industry, such as the Wondrwall Group, are ready to play our part. #intelligentliving #wondrwall #esc #housing #election2024 https://lnkd.in/eEwX5JyP

Upcoming elections are “crucial” to stop the far right from seizing power and dismantling the Green Deal, say the European Greens. That is according to the European Greens, which took part in a high profile Eurovision debate between the candidates vying to be the next president of the Commission. #EUToday #EuropeanGreens #GreenDeal

Today is the day. Almost every day we have many appointments, some of them very important. In our personal lives, but also in our professional lives. Many of these appointments are only relevant to a small group of people, often only to ourselves just like the first coffee (or tea) in the morning. But today is about the big picture. Today is the day we can defend democracy AND such important achievements like the European Green Deal, and with it a minimum level of protection for nature and the livelihoods of us humans on this wonderful planet Earth. Whatever is in your diary today, whatever is important to you today - make sure you combine it with a trip to the ballot box. Get out and vote, vote to protect our livelihoods, all species and our democracy. The right to vote and decide freely and secretly is a privilege we can and must use. Especially at a time when populist parties are gaining strength around the world, parties that stand against all the values that are so incredibly important for a future worth living for all people, we must stand together against them. We are more, we are mostly just quieter. Today we have to show that we can also be loud. That's what's important today! And another very important note you might have been aware of already or maybe you haven't: there is NO 5% threshold in the European elections and voting for a small party is NOT at all a wasted vote. Just 0.5% of the vote secures a seat in the European Parliament and financial support for the small party. This is precisely why you do not need to vote for a party that represents a compromise in the European elections. Vote for the party that stands the closest for what is important to YOU and will represent those values when elected, regardless of false lobbying. #niewiederistjetzt #EUGreenDeal #fitfor55 #democracy #sustainability #vote #neveragainisNOW #futureforall #futurereadiness
