The #CACreativeCorps is such an exciting initiative at the state of CA that centers artists, culture bearers and creative workers to develop media, outreach, and engagement campaigns designed to increase: (1) public health awareness messages to stop the spread of COVID-19; (2) public awareness related to water and energy conservation, climate mitigation, and emergency preparedness, relief, and recovery; (3) civic engagement, including election participation; and (4) social justice and community engagement. 60% of funds must either be granted directly to individuals or used by nonprofit sub-grantees to hire individual artists. California is innovating when we make investments in the people and places that can create change. This was funded in the 2021 state budget with a 1x appropriation of $60 million, the single largest investment to the California Arts Council that is now fully expended. Let's work together to ensure continued funding for this program and look for ways to collaborate with other programs such as California Climate Action Corps. #CAiscreative #CAjobsfirst #creativityunleashed #artworkiswork Californians For The Arts

Communities of color face a disproportionate burden of poor health outcomes due to limited access to healthcare, deep-rooted mistrust stemming from a history of discrimination within the medical field, and other systemic issues. What’s more, POC are often underrepresented in clinical trials and research studies. Tranquil Clinical Research , a company that recognizes this historical disparity, is actively taking steps to address the gap. Recently, the Houston-based research clinic secured a $500,000 working loan through the Abbott-LISC Initiative to Support Diverse Businesses in Health. This funding has enabled Tranquil Clinical Research to continue its research and help tackle underrepresentation in treatment studies. I was privileged as a board member of Collaborative Healing Initiative Within Communities to attend a press conference yesterday at which our CEO Sade Cooper, along with State Representative Jennifer Bacon (she, her) and State Senator James Coleman and other leaders formally announced introducing legislation which would empower a detailed racial justice (or injustices as the case may be) study in the State of Colorado. This initiative, titled Justice for Black Coloradans, is an historic step forward in identifying, documenting and understanding the specific policies and actions over the past 150 years Colorado has been a state that have contributed to the enormous disparities in education, income, wealth, and other economic opportunities between black Coloradans and so many of their fellow citizens. This vanguard study, to be led by History Colorado and funded by private sector donations, can lay the groundwork for smart, compassionate and consensus-driven policies to ameliorate the obvious legacy of historical (and on-going) injustices and ensuring a future of equal justice for all of us. As one of the speakers yesterday aptly remarked, this isn’t about critical race theory but about critical race history. What is proposed is just a study, but is nonetheless a monumental step forward in a rational path to justice and reconciliation. If you are interested you can learn more about it at https://lnkd.in/gXqEqpvp.
