It's been an incredible journey, but today is my last day at SportCast after seven years. I joined SportCast in mid-2017 and sat down with Ryan Coombs six months later in a two-person trading team to serve our first partner in late December 2017. Even though I knew we had a great opportunity, team, and product, I would be lying if I imagined we would end up where we are now. Thanks to the founders for giving me the opportunity. It has been a great experience, and I wouldn't have changed any part of it due to what I have learnt. Anyone involved with an early-stage start-up knows how hard it is, with a roller coaster feeling and long hours 6/7 days a week. Covid was an extra problem to deal with! The one thing that got me through this period was our UK office culture and the friends I made along the way. Special mentions to Ryan Coombs Basil Hassan Paul Twomey Nicky Turk Pete Byrne, Patrick Turk Robin Held Ollie Mackleworth Jonathan Davies Luke Baily Sam Robertson Dipayan Roy and countless others! Journey highlights include Heath Kelly solving P1 tech issues from a pub at midnight with his tech genius, our infamous darts competitions, watching Baz's face every time someone said Sportscast instead of Sportcast, the doughnut wheel and our constant 45-minute hunt for deliveroo drivers from our first office! I also want to thank all the partners who trusted us and our product. We have grown to approximately 100 partners since 2017. Through those partnerships, I have met and learnt from many smart people worldwide within the betting industry, which I’ve enjoyed. I want to especially thank those operators who trusted us in our early days. I also want to thank Genius Sports for our first sales partnership. They played a big part in some of our early deals, with a special mention to Matt Stephenson , Tom Chard James McKiernan Stephen Parkes and the countless sales team members who worked with us. We grew as we did through that partnership and the reputation behind us. Since the acquisition, I have worked with, collaborated with, and learnt from many people at IMGA and Openbet. I wish you all well; there are too many people to mention. With the recent redundancies made at IMGA, there are many talented people on the market, and I can't recommend them all highly enough. I can't express how much I have enjoyed working with Luke Saunders who has taught me a lot commercially. Undoubtedly, he is destined for big things within the industry, and I am grateful for our time together. Also, thanks to my partnerships and customer success team, who have done incredible things with an extremely lean team and have all been a pleasure to manage! Fantastic 7 years Marcus. Thanks for keeping us on our toes with the amount of new clients you signed up. It was a huge part of getting the company to where it is today, although I may not have always been as appreciative in the moment, as we battled to keep meeting the new client targets without compromising on quality. It taught me a lot of valuable lessons, which helped me a lot in my role. Keen to see what is next for you and looking forward to a beer at some stage
Congratulations Marcus - both on one hell of a Sport(s)cast/SportCast/OpenBet ride; and on turning the page to a new chapter soon to be written. With the pen in your hand, it’s a very exciting future ahead and lucky are those who’ll get the chance to work alongside you, learn from you, lean on you and have you as a friend.
