Want to hear directly from a young person about the challenges youth face when they exit the foster care system? This 4 minute video provides great insight!
Ambrosia stayed at TGTHR for some time after aging out of the foster care system. With nearly 400,000 children in foster care and a shortage of licensed homes for them to move into, the foster care system is strained. At 18, many foster kids are pushed out of the system and left on their own – facing an increased risk of homelessness and incarceration. Correspondent Laura Chavez travels to Colorado to meet with organizations that are helping former foster kids land on their feet, like TGTHR. Watch the story on Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien: https://loom.ly/bB_gGM4 @matteroffacttv @soledadobrien @producerlaura #endingyouthhomelessness #matteroffact #soledadobrien #youthhomelessness #fostercare #TGTHR #bouldernonprofit

TW❗ ---> abuse in foster care. When you're in foster care, you should feel safe and have all of your needs met. Unfortunately, abuse in foster care happens. Hear from youth formerly in care: Lavarian who describes his experience in the system, and from Selena, who says knowing your rights is vital in situations like these. Download the app to know your rights in foster care. Remember to report if you are being abused to an adult because abuse is NEVER okay.📲 https://lnkd.in/ePjNBCS6 #getfosterpower #justiceforfosteryouth #NOcorporalpunishment #fostercareabuse

RESPOND is a culturally competent approach to foster care, designed to support potential foster/adoptive/guardianship families from the Black community as they enter the foster care system. The need for RESPOND arose due to the significant shortage of Black foster parents in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Currently, only 17% of local foster parents are Black, despite twice the number of Black children being placed into foster care compared to Caucasian children. Furthermore, African American children tend to remain in foster care nearly a year longer than their White counterparts. Want to become a RESPOND foster parent? Contact: Jenny Jones – Director of RESPOND 1750 South Brentwood Boulevard, Suite 210, Saint Louis, MO 63144 o 314.367.8373 e jennyjones@foster-adopt.org Learn More: https://lnkd.in/gumDUFAi #respond #representationmatters #foster #adopt #fosterparent #becomeafosterparent
