There is an interesting dichotomy in being a general counsel. On one side you have to be prepared for a vast array of legal issues. The title General is very true. You by necessity become a legal generalist. Think of YouTube shorts version of knowledge. You get a broad understanding in as little time as possible. On the other side, the desire to obtain as deep of an understanding on any specific topic isn’t always possible. The aching desire to better and more intricately understand is often left a casualty of time. The dichotomy makes for an interesting career. I have had days where I am evaluating the validity of a consumer lawsuit and then researching the number of water closets required by OSHA. Both involve dealing with other people’s crap, but for very different reasons. The day of a general counsel can swing back and forth fin intensity. There is always more to know and more to understand. Time is the one opponent we all face and will never fully defeat. To be a good general counsel, it is how we wage the battle with time that defines us. #knowledge #understanding #timemanagement #generalcounsel
