If I took a shot of tequila for every time I heard “AI” in the W.Media - Global Cloud & Data Center event in Manila… …I’d be drunk by 10:47am. (I can hold my liquor!) It’s always great to network with data center professionals and learning how critical these facilities are in the way the world works today. Some initial topics I’ve heard: - Existing data centers in the PH will face obsolescence in the next 5 to 10 years - Customer requirements are changing requiring higher density racks - Traditional construction fails to meet rapid delivery demands - Time consuming supply of key materials - There is a power issue - Need more government support - Facing skills shortage - Need to work with the academe to upskill - “Brain Gain” - let’s bring back our Overseas Filipino Workers especially in engineering - Sustainability is mandatory - PH needs to run faster in the AI race - AI will enter the PH in the next few years
Absolutely agree Eric. The an AI network is so fundamentally different from the traditional ones even a lot of existing cutting edge equipment is a bottle neck for the latest GPUs. It's going to be a challenge for the whole ecosystem to keep up.
Great insights Eric. These are many of the same issues facing the sector in the US as well. Power being a major issue for most jurisdictions
Thanks for summarizing!
Great insights!
