In today's digital age, media literacy is crucial - especially for young people. As we spend more time online, it's becoming increasingly important to teach young people how to think critically about the content they consume + create. It's not just for their own well-being, but for the well-being of others as well. So for this month, we will discuss media literacy online, its importance, and provide resources and knowledge for parents, caregivers, and young people.
Media literacy is an essential defense in our modern world. It can mean the difference between making informed decisions based on accurate information or making decisions based on poorly-informed opinions that can impact our health, social connections, + democracy. The internet serves as a vast source of information, but not all of it is accurate or reliable. Young people are often tech-savvy + can find information quickly, but they may not possess the critical thinking skills necessary to distinguish between safe + potentially harmful content. This is why it's imperative to educate them on how to navigate the internet safely + identify trustworthy sources of information.
Teaching media literacy skills to young people is essential to help them develop into responsible + informed adults.

3moLooking forward to this ... It was pretty simple when our son was 5 ... his computer access was managed totally by us, his parents. He had no access to anything that we didn't approve. At 5 a child should, imo, NEVER be allowed free access to the internet or any device that has such access. This isnt their responsibility it's ours. Yes start teaching them ... but as far as science and medicine understands at this point in their lives kids are a long way off from critical thinking skills or expectations.
