This is what the adoption 'S' curve looks like at the start of exponential growth; month over month and year-over-year spikes, plateaus, and a steady upward trend. 10% market share might not seem like a lot, but as someone who has been tinkering and working in the EV space since 2008, it's astonishing to see electric-powered mobility so quickly disrupt the transportation sector, one of the largest and entrenched sectors of our economy and the biggest climate pollution emitter. This growth is the result of entrepreneurial spirit, technology #innovation, industry investments, #publicpolicy, and consumer desire that is reinforced by the fact that once you kick gas, there's no going back because #EVs are more enjoyable to own and drive (current charging infrastructure issues notwithstanding, which we're working on! ). At this adoption rate, we may reach the goal of 50% #EV market share by 2030. Think about that; every other car rolling off auto dealers' lots would be electric. Honk if you think we'll get there! Thanks to Atlas Public Policy for tracking and translating the data! #electricvehicles #electriccars #transportation #sustainability #climatechange #cleanenergygeneration

Since that peak in 2017, gas-powered vehicle sales have dropped 23%. At the same time, EV sales have steadily risen.

China’s first half sales showing us a major shift in the automakers leading the combustion engine sales compared to the EV sales. This shift can be an indicator for the rest of the world, if the big players do not expedite their EV commericalisation.

Can we discuss EV sales for a moment? There has been a lot of press around EV sales slowing and asking has the EV boom already busted. Major OEM's announced scaling back production. So, it got me thinking. There were an estimated 1.2M BEV's sold in the US in 2023, representing just under 8% of total sales. How are individual OEM's comparing against that benchmark? As you'll see in the chart below (link to the full article included) 4 OEMs significantly beat the benchmark. Hyundai's figures don't include the Kona. Even so, they sold 15K more EV's vs ford 3Q YTD. In fact, they sold the most EV's of anyone on this list. Yes, the rate of EV sales growth is slowing. Yes, the public charging infrastructure has issues (a topic for later this week). Yet, perhaps it is time to ask, is it the electric drive train customers are not selecting, or something else?
