Public Relations and MarCom Leader with 15 Years of Agency and In-House Experience | Communications Specialist | SpenceMark PR
Comms is comms is comms. To all HR, recruiters, and hiring managers - listen to the PR experts when we say: we can successfully execute PR strategies in ANY industry. That’s why comms and PR folks have such longevity. If we’re good at what we do (excellent writers, creative thinkers, great with people, understands media, strategic planners, smart project managers) then our communications skills can apply anywhere and everywhere! As I interview with different organizations, I am experiencing skepticism and doubt around this issue like never before. In my 15 years, I’ve worked with public health, hotels, hospitals, government departments, sports orgs, nonprofits, museums, wine brands, businesses, retail, restaurants, and CEOs. When hiring, folks should be looking at past experience, PR successes, creative storytelling, and general enthusiasm for good comms planning in order to achieve big goals. ➡️ My post was inspired by Sarah Kissko Hersh’s brilliant post - see below! ⬇️ PR is PR is PR. With very few exceptions, if you can successfully do PR in one industry you can successfully do PR in any industry. Over the years I’ve worked for clients in: Travel and hospitality Architecture and design B2B B2C Non profits Museums Associations Consumer packaged goods Government and quasi-government orgs Public companies Private companies Entertainment Marketing Tech Luxury Retail And more (even a jazz dance troupe) The principles are the same, and they are transferable. New media relationships can be made. So if you’re hiring a PR person or PR agency partner, prioritize things like: Chemistry fit Attitude Writing skills Work ethic Creativity Genuine interest in following news Tenacity Past success
