Delighted to be featured in this months #NCE and use the opportunity to reinforce the importance of working collaboratively and to put it bluntly, the need to speed it up. Too many common challenges for society as well as the industry, are trying to be solved by individual businesses. The evidence is screaming ‘it won’t work, it’s inefficient so stop ..’ Challenges around safety, cost, carbon, productivity, data, automation, sustainability, social value, vfm are just some of todays givens for us all, so isn’t it sensible to tackle them together. These pages amongst others are full of individual company successes which are great if we weren’t facing a climate and nature emergency. And before you all shout I do get the value of this but there is a sense of ‘fiddling whilst Rome burns’. Let’s be honest I see and hear fewer truly collaborative and pan sector alliances being shared that are creating the scale of sector wide transformation that we need. The good news, and their is some, is that momentum is building and as an example with the Infrastructure Industry Innovation Partnership (i3P) I sense a genuine willingness between clients to finally work together. I also sense key delivery partners starting to align their voices and resources and my hope is that we will soon reach a tipping point where shared ideas, resources and funds are planned for and just part of ‘how we do business’. It will only be by behaving differently that we can help create the sustainable industry of the future and even more importantly a more sustainable world. I would be delighted to hear your thoughts and examples of where this is happening and how we can further learn and deliver together.
