What I've learned from securing a dozen seven-figure gifts (=$23M); and 50+ six-figure gifts (=$10M) from individuals and foundations over my career: 🤝 You want to partner with these donors. You see them not just as a resource for funds, but you love their ideas. It needs to be a good fit both ways. 👥 Leadership donors help you secure other leadership donors. You want to get them involved (such as serving on the board) and encourage them to engage their friends and colleagues. 💲The first six or seven-figure gift is just the beginning. How do we strengthen our partnership? We need to be in conversation with them about our challenges, what's ahead, and what possibilities their gift has opened up. Organizations that are acting like partners will receive an entirely different response than those that simply submit an application or send an email request.
