I was in Korea a couple of weeks ago - as always, an absolute delight! This was especially due to our partners across government, academia, the private sector and students. We came together for the annual event that commemorates our Korea - World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF). This year we brought our grantees, which included Bank teams and government counterparts from several countries to bring their experiences to bear on employment and skills. Our Social Protection, Jobs and Skills teams were in the limelight, along with their counterparts across the globe. So, KWPF is a “partnership”, but what’s the modality? The modality is a #trustfund. The government of the Republic of Korea contributes to this funding mechanism that takes forward joint priorities. The World Bank transfers these grant resources through an internal call for proposals, for countries that want to innovate or scale up initiatives such as for jobs. Korean partners share knowledge from Korea and recipient countries share theirs with Korea and with each other. As a result and I’ve said elsewhere, I see KWPF and other trust funds as a glue. They steer knowledge and expertise across countries, enable innovation and move with agility and speed where needed to complement other multilateral and domestic resources.
