Road Traffic Safety Management system. ISO 39001 ISO 39001 is an international standard issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and relates to road traffic safety management systems. This standard aims to provide a general framework for road organizations, government institutions, and private enterprises to improve traffic safety and reduce road accidents, injuries, and fatalities. ISO 39001 helps organizations develop and implement an effective traffic safety management system and improve the safety culture within the organization. The standard focuses on identifying and assessing traffic risks and implementing preventive measures and continuous improvement. Within the ISO 39001-based traffic safety management system, organizations are required to fulfill several requirements. One of these requirements is traffic risk analysis, where organizations must identify potential risks, evaluate them, and determine appropriate preventive measures to address them. Organizations must also provide training to employees and workers in road safety to enhance awareness and knowledge of road safety risks and how to deal with them. Continuous review and improvement are important factors in ISO 39001. Organizations must evaluate the performance of the implemented road safety system and continuously improve procedures and measures. This includes analyzing traffic data and evaluating results to identify areas of weakness and implementing necessary improvements. Compliance with ISO 39001 is important for organizations concerned with traffic safety, striving to improve road safety, and reduce road accidents and injuries. Implementing this standard may help in building a record free of traffic accidents and enhancing trust among the community, customers, and partners of the organization. #KeepingRoadsSafe #RoadSafetyMatters #ISO39001Compliant #TrafficSafetyManagement #StaySafeOnRoads OMV OMV Petrom OMV GAS

🔗 Understanding the Regulations: Why Vessel Owners Appoint Vessel Managers and What Role They Play 🔗 One topic that has repeatedly surfaced in conversations is the importance of understanding the regulatory framework surrounding the appointment of vessel managers by ship owners. 📜 Regulatory Landscape When it comes to vessel management, numerous regulations dictate the responsibilities and liabilities of ship owners. These can range from the International Safety Management (ISM) Code to specific national laws. One common requirement is the appointment of a 'Competent Person' or Vessel Manager to oversee various aspects of ship operations. 📜 Document of Compliance (DOC) One fundamental requirement for vessel managers is obtaining and maintaining a Document of Compliance (DOC). Issued by a ship's flag state or an authorized body, the DOC certifies that the vessel manager’s safety management system complies with the ISM Code. This document is vital for demonstrating both regulatory compliance and a commitment to safety standards and is our license to operate. 👥 Role of the Vessel Manager The Vessel Manager serves as the cornerstone for ensuring not just compliance but also operational efficiency. Their tasks often include: - Safety Management - Crewing - Maintenance and Repairs - Financial Management - Regulatory Compliance 👨👩👦 Crew Management A crucial part of the Vessel Manager's role revolves around crew management. This includes everything from recruitment, training, and payroll, to ensuring the well-being of the crew. Effective crew management is not just a matter of compliance but also crucial for the operational success and safety of the vessel. 📑 Legal Requirements The appointment of a vessel manager is often a legal necessity. Ship owners must consider the vessel manager's qualifications, experience, and the scope of services to ensure they meet regulatory standards. Contracts such as BIMCO's SHIPMAN agreement can serve as a useful guideline for outlining these roles and responsibilities formally. 🌐 Global Considerations For international fleets, vessel managers may also play a key role in ensuring compliance with regional and international regulations, such as the MARPOL Convention for environmental protection or the MLC for labor conditions. ⚖️ Liability and Accountability The vessel manager assumes a portion of the legal and financial liability, which is why their role is heavily regulated. By clearly defining their responsibilities, ship owners can mitigate risks while ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency. 🔍 Conclusion Understanding the regulations that govern the appointment and role of vessel managers is crucial for ship owners. A well-selected and proficient vessel manager can make the difference in navigating the complex world of maritime operations successfully. #VesselManagement #MaritimeRegulations #ShipOwners #VesselManagers #ISMCode #BIMCO #SHIPMAN

I am often asked “Can we put you down as DPA?” by captains filling out flag issued forms. I reply “Yes, if I can participate in the creation, application, development and monitoring of the system.” Often the dialogue ends there, with no more involvement beyond being “put down” deemed necessary by the enquiring party. When used judiciously, a proper Safety Management System (SMS) is the captain’s best friend. Having one that isn’t followed is an open risk for blame, and not having one at all is an invitation for accusations of gross negligence in the event of an accident. The blame game, a competition after the event to exclude oneself from any responsibility for a negative outcome, is often won by managers and owners who instinctively point the finger at the captain - he or she is, after all, the one running the boat. External influences and extenuating circumstances are often overlooked, or quickly forgotten. #OnboardOnline #CaptainSafety #SafetyManagement #SmallVessels #MaritimeSafety #YachtSafety #BoatManagement
