Last but not least, the powerhouse of knowledge and influence, Lies Craeynest is the final member completing our fantastic board! Lies Craeynest is Head of Private Sector Engagement at Oxfam International. She works across the Oxfam confederation to support and coordinate Oxfamโs relations with Multinational Companies (MNCs) and large businesses, speaking out and campaigning against them when needed, and collaborating where this is possible. She has been working with Oxfam for nearly 13 years, starting off in Oxfam's GROW campaign (www.grow.org) which campaigned on climate change and social injustice in the global food system. Her focus then was on European policies on aid to agriculture as well as on European climate policy and international climate negotiations. She has taken the Brussels government to court on air quality breaches and won, and has been an active leader in a local clean air school movement, protesting every week in front of the school gates with kids and parents. Lies has worked for over 20 years in the NGO sector, in both development and environment NGOs in the United Kingdom and internationally (Brussels-based). She has a Masters in Anthropology of Development and a Masters in Psychology. "I am incredibly honoured to take a part in this organisation which is small(ish) in set-up but huge in vision. I truly believe that once our collective minds are focussed on the protein intake needed for collective and planetary health, we will be able to tackle the enormous climate, biodiversity and health problems which we are now facing due to hugely unsustainable diets. The writing is on the wall, and I believe those corporates who are responding to it will be the winners in this race in terms of costs, consumer appreciation and global standing." #MadreBrava #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ProteinTransition

Those of us who work in sustainability know how much we rely on trust and good faith between organisations. Not without fault, the UNSDGs are one representation of those global and international agreements that have come about because of a shared vision for a better future. We depend on organisations like Oxfam, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, The World Bank, The Word Health Organisation, The UN and all of our own Governments to set the standards and lead the way for change. We have already seen the rippling effect of leaving the EU, negatively impacting on the UK's sustainability agenda. What happens when other modern co-operative movements begin to fall away? Things we take for granted now, but have only been in existence for several decades. We are currently seeing the erosion of faith in the UN being a body who can instigate real change when it matters most. We are currently seeing how the UN is not able to drive for peace and justice if the member bodies don't agree to it. We are currently witnessing how political decisions may have lasting impact on our global sustainability efforts. #socialvalue #qualityoflife #systemsthinking #sustainability #palestine

Day 4: Formation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) The idea for the SDGs was born at the 2012 Rio+20 Summit in Brazil. At the Summit, government leaders began creating a set of universal goals to tackle poverty, ill health, inequality and environmental degradation. The idea was to use the SDGs as a new agreement to replace the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which expired in 2015. The goals provide a framework for shared action "for people, planet and prosperity", to be implemented by "all countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership". These goals were refined and consolidated over time through a series of meetings and negotiations, resulting in the final 17SDGs that were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. In September 2015, Heads of State and Government agreed to set the world on a path towards Sustainable Development through the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There's a call for action from governments, civil society, communities, companies, and youths to achieve the SDGs. #SDGsSpotlight #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #day4

The United Nationsโ report on the international communityโs progress towards achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is far from favourable. The situation is especially dire with regard to the goal of achieving zero hunger by 2030, as the number of people going hungry worldwide has risen to 735โฏmillion since 2015. โWe urgently need to correct course in order to get back on track. The international community has the knowledge and the means necessary to achieve sustainable development, with the SDGs offering a good structure for this process. What we need now is greater commitment to implementing these goals,โ says Mathias Mogge, the secretary general of Welthungerhilfe. To end hunger by 2030, Welthungerhilfe calls on heads of state and government to make a clear commitment to the human right to foodโ #SDGSummit #UNSDGSummit

Women leaders of local organizations in #SolomonIslands, #Fiji and #Samoa outline the barriers community and faith-based organizations face accessing #ClimateFinance. Dr Kristina Fidali, Ofusina Toamua, and Sereima Lomaloma co-authored research: 'Can civil society organizations and faith- based organizations in Fiji, Samoa and Solomon Islands access climate finance?' Locally led research can support knowledge and awareness for international negotiations and better understanding local challenges. During #COP28, women emphasised the need for finance that communities can access to support localised climate solutions for #RiskInformed #ClimateResilient communities. Five key barriers to accessing #ClimateFinance: 1. Information platforms used are not accessible by vulnerable communities. 2. Strong concerns and frustrations over complex donor processes and requirements that disadvantage CSO/FBOs. 3. Low capacity on grant writing and management for CBOs/FBOs. 4. Donors do not recognize role of CBOs/FBOs in development. 5. Weak relationship with National Government and donors. Two organizations involved in this research, the Coalition of Youth for Environmental Sustainability in Solomon Islands and House of Sarah, Fiji are recipients of the UNDP Governance for Resilient Development in the Pacific, Small Grants Initiative supported by Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Sida, KOICA and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Pacific Island Region will continues to face barriers in achieving gender inclusion. Unless extensive progress in addressing discriminatory beliefs, attitudes, and practices that perpetuate gender-based discrimination. We need progressive policies,to even begin addressing bridging implementation, financing, and accountability gaps. The current system of governance must continue to accelerate progress towards achieving SDG 5. Advocating Gender inclusion in existing policies and also identify Our Strengths Weaknesses and opportunities to improve across four critical areas: education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and political participation of women and girls. We need great progress in reducing poverty and enhancing living standards. Many basic benefits are unequal and continue to perpetuate differences in progress within genders in our society. To ensure the benefits of development are shared by all it is critically important to ensure that the gender equality gap is addressed and closed. Policymakers, social investors and civil society organisations should address by providing their voices and resources to achieve equality for women and girls across the region. #greenbuilding #greenenergy #Elitenanopacific #sustainabilitygoals #energy #environmentalmanagement #greenbuildingpacific #leedcertification #womenempowerment #womeninleadership #genderequality #womenentrepreneurs #womeningreenbuilding #wellness #energyefficiency #netzero #womeninsustainability #womenintrade #sdg5 #womeninconstruction #fiji #greenarchitecture #greeneconomy

Hello, LinkedIn community, I had the opportunity to listen to a profoundly impactful fireside chat at the United Nations General Assembly. Amitabh Behar, our Executive Director at Oxfam International, sat with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antรณnio Guterres, to discuss the challenges we face as a global community. Below, I sum up a few key points: ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ: We find ourselves in complex, interconnected crises. From a climate emergency to a cost-of-living crisis, from increasing inequality to democratic backsliding, we are in the midst of a polycrisis that demands urgent action. What's staggering is the increasing divide between the wealthy and the rest of the world. In just three years, billionaires have doubled their wealth. In the same timeframe, the majority of the global population has found it increasingly difficult to meet even basic needs, such as putting food on the table. A staggering two-thirds of newly created wealth has gone to the top 1%. As someone deeply involved with Oxfam's mission, I am encouraged by the range of solutions we put forth to address these systemic issues. We are actively working to redesign a global system that, as it currently stands, exploits the many for the benefit of a select few. Please take just 2 minutes to watch the short video encapsulating Oxfam's proposed solutions. Knowledge is the first step towards meaningful action, and each of us plays a role in catalysing change. The need for change isn't on the horizonโit's here, now. Consider this your call to arms if you've been seeking a sign to take action. Together, we can challenge the existing systems and contribute to a global transformation that uplifts everyone. #ChangeStartsWithUs #GlobalTransformation #Oxfam #UNGA #Inequality #ClimateEmergency #CostOfLivingCrisis
