One of the best things I've done in the last year was join People Helping People of Utah as a career mentor. This grassroots, non-profit helps low-income women and single mothers get back into the workforce and/or land jobs with higher pay and better insurance. Here are a few facts if you are interested in joining. 🤝You do NOT have to be a recruiter to be a volunteer (although, if you have talent acquisition experience, it's a plus). 🤝There are three ways to volunteer and you can pick your preference based on your own schedule. 🤝This is fully remote volunteer work, so even if you live outside of Utah, you can help. 🙌🏼Helping others may just be the secret to living a more purposeful life. It boosts your own self-esteem and adds to your network through meaningful connection. You can join through their website: https://www.phputah.org Or email their program coordinator, Ella Ernst for more info. #letsgrowtogether #volunteer #linkedinconnections #helpingeachother

Jobhunter's Alphabet - V is for Volunteering Volunteerism has always been an important part of my life. My first adult volunteer position was at a women's shelter more than 30 years ago. I have manned phones, cleared brush, walked dogs, been a Big Sister, been a Campfire leader, worked for the WI Historical Society and now I crochet blankets and help non-profits with fundraising & awareness. I have never regretted a moment of time or dollar spent as a volunteer. Volunteering expands your contact base and improves your mental health. It serves your community and helps you build new career skills. It puts good karma out into the world and, helps you be more patient as the job search grinds out. I cannot speak forcefully enough about how much volunteering matters to the organizations and people you impact with your talents and time. If you need a place to start, I recommend VolunteerMatch. If you'd like, message me, and I will share my experiences and contacts. But just know that someone would love to have your help. #volunteer #volunteerism #jobhuntersalphabet #jobhunting #jobhuntingtips

It's been a little over a month since I last posted, and let me tell you, it wasn't by choice. Unfortunately, life threw some things my way that I couldn't avoid. Also, some offline responsibilities took priority. On a positive note, I've been busy behind the scenes working as the Creative Director and Community Manager for a non-profit organization. They're focused on helping young career professionals navigate the early stages of their careers. The Vision: Community Hub: A supportive space where young professionals can connect and network. Guidance & Resources: We'd be providing clear advice, helpful resources to navigate early-career challenges and simplifying complex issues. Expert Insights: We'll be hosting events featuring established professionals who can share valuable knowledge and experience. There's still a lot in the works, but I'm confident this project will offer tremendous value when it launches. P.S So, what have I missed while I've been MIA? Fill me in! I’ve really missed my people. #backonlinkedIn #linkedin #community #connections #nonprofit #professionaldevelopment #careers #networking

Wow, the last few months have been wild! November 2023 was not the ideal time to quit a job, but, man… never felt happier as a professional, bringing tangible results and real impact. So here are the highlights of the last 3 months: 1. Conducted 200+ hours of sessions on how to get an offer in this crazy market 2. Helped 15+ clients land on a new job 🥳. Some were choosing between multiple offers 3. Developed and launched 3 practice-based workshops on salary negotiation and the psychology of job search (anxiety, imposter syndrome, FOMO) 4. Built an online (Instagram) community of 5K ambitious professionals. 5. Launched 2 volunteer initiatives: Buddy Program (job seekers supporting each other) & a series of consulting sessions paid by donations, which I matched 100% ($600 total) & transferred further to Mom2Mom Child Poverty Initiative Society 6. Launched a practice-based online group program on Job Search in North America. Currently in the very midst of it, enjoying 100% participation and assignment turn in rate 🙌 I am looking at the list above and can’t believe all these things happened within the last 90 days. 🫣 What are your recent professional highlights?

There are a lot of great benefits working at LinkedIn, for which I’m extremely grateful. Still, it’s well known that perks in a vacuum won’t keep people motivated and fulfilled long term. And as many transitioned educators can attest to, there are moments when I feel disconnected from the impact of the work I’m doing since I don’t always see it up close. That’s why I’ve been so grateful for #LinkedInCoaches. It’s a program that allows me time, space, and recognition for something I’m passionate about and motivated by. I leave these events lit up, reminded of my roots and to never lose sight of the job seeker experience. And the cherry 👏 on 👏 top 👏 is that the #LinkedInCoaches program ran a friendly competition to inspire more sign-ups and hours. As recognition for my volunteer hours, I received a $1,000 award to donate to a charity of my choice. I couldn’t pick just one so I’m splitting the award between these four: 1. DonorsChoose - allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects 2. Sandy Hook Promise - works to advance school safety and mental health programs to prevent gun violence 3. YELLOWHAMMER FUND - a reproductive justice organization that “envisions a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures." 4. NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. - America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. I also want to shout out the organizations I got to know through the #LinkedInCoaches program: Braven, JVS - Bay Area, The Last Mile, COOP, and First Place for Youth. They do incredible work and I’ll be donating the rest of my accumulated awards balance to these orgs. To my colleagues at #LinkedIn: I can’t recommend the #LinkedInCoaches program enough. It’s been a profound experience to connect with job seekers, share hard learned lessons, and promote economic opportunity. Head to go/Coaches to learn more and get involved!
