PAX introduces new program to reduce plastic waste in partnership with rePurpose Global, the world’s leading Plastic Action Platform. Through this program, PAX is the first cannabis company to achieve Plastic Negative certification across all existing product lines. Now, for every PAX item customers buy, twice as much plastic waste will be removed from nature through rePurpose Global’s vetted impact project, Paraíso de Ballenas. Through this project, PAX is supporting the recovery of low-value ocean-bound plastic in Colombia — including transportation, sorting, and making sure it’s properly recycled. This helps to protect Colombia's Pacific coastline around Buenaventura, which includes national parks and whale breeding grounds. The company is also supporting local waste workers’ incomes and providing access to an inclusive, safe, and dignified work environment. As part of this broader plastic action effort, the company is also launching PAX TRIP, their first all-in-one vape, and the industry’s first plastic negative all-in-one, made from ocean bound plastic — offering consumers a more sustainable alternative to existing products on the market. PAX will also launch some new packaging, made with post-consumer recycled materials. Karma Water, based in New York, manufactures naturally enhanced, flavored spring water and has taken a significant step towards plastic action by taking the plastic recovery pledge by rePurpose Global. Through their verified plastic recovery pledge the brand has committed to fund the collection and ethical processing of over 2.5 million lbs of ocean-bound plastic waste. 🧴That's equivalent to around 62 million plastic bottles! Things most people don't know about bananas: 1. The peels are edible. When I freeze organic bananas, I keep the peels on, removing just the stem. Once frozen, the whole thing can go into a smoothie. 2. Rotting bananas emit ethylene, which could be used to produce polyethylene, a plastic usually made from fossil fuels. 3. Now there's a new, improved use for banana peels. They can be made into biodegradable bioplastic films. The logistics of collecting the peels separate from other compostable food scraps and scaling the concept is another challenge, but this is still an interesting development.

Tackling the reduction of plastic waste involves the deployment of relevant infrastructures. And for some countries, this step can be more difficult than for others.    As a proud Associate of Mars Petcare, I am so happy that Mars joined Amcor and Procter & Gamble to partner with the NGO Delterra, to tackle plastic waste & develop circular economies in the Global South by transforming waste management and recycling systems.
