Perspective is everything…

Five years ago, I was in university taking a course on something that simply wasn’t me, but I didn’t know that at the time. I have always been ambitious and through that I have told myself I could learn anything, but I struggled with setting myself some personal goals, but I had to do something. The drive of being a successful woman that will finally “break the chain” has led me to do something quite funny, but that would change the course of my life, so I asked ChatGPT, “what are the fastest growing careers in 2023?”. Yes, I let AI help me decide what to do next. “DIGITAL MARKETING”. It made sense. It made a lot of sense! I have been a content creator with plenty of short-form video experience for the last three years; I am chronic user of all main social media platforms and even built myself a community…almost 1 million of them! Yes, it all made sense, so I dived straight in! Now, I stand here with still SO MUCH to learn, but also so much passion and drive, to apply not only my years of practice but also the theory. It’s a family tradition for us to say thanks to our children at the end of each school year, not for the marks they brought home but for the effort they put in … … most importantly for embracing the opportunity to learn and have fun with it. I think that’s a good habit in business, too, especially for ambitious teams. This is exciting! Just seeing the topics being tabled is monumental. Psychosocial risk management, burnout, the integrated approach to workplace mental health, and sexual harassment prevention. I hope it’s a time where insight is gained and understanding expanded and networks strengthened. This week, it’s not only time for many of us to celebrate Easter, but also the end of Q1. 🐣 🗓 A quarter of the year is now behind us. ⏳ Three quarters left. Maybe a good moment to pause and reflect: how did it go? Do you notice your mind racing towards what needs to be fixed, where your focus should be next and what goals you might have missed? 📝 Or can you look back and notice what you accomplished, or where there was progress towards a goal? 🏆 I can for sure admit that my focus can quite easily jump into a “fix list”, missed goals and next steps. This is of course needed to look ahead and make the next action plan, but something very important is then missed: ✨ The opportunity celebrate, to release some reward-hormone dopamine and feel proud of getting something done, on an individual level or as a group. ✨ Forgetting to notice, let alone celebrate the goals that we did reach seems quite common, unfortunately. So perhaps when we pick our favourite Easter egg to enjoy, we could spend a minute looking back at the first part of the year and noticing what we did well. 💛

It's the most wonderful time of the year, with all the merry making and festivities going on. As the year comes to a close, take the time to reflect on achievements, failures, joys and disappointments that took place. Learn from what went well and what went not so well. Celebrate your wins but do not get complacent. Acknowledge your weaknesses but do not dwell on them. Understand what you want lies solely in your hands and not in anyone else's. If you are determined to find a way, no one can stop you. If you choose to look for another excuse, no one will stop you. Dream big, start small but be consistent. Tiny actions compound to big results over time.
