Today, we recognise PTSD Awareness Day and the significant impact PTSD has on around 3.9% of the global population. 🌍 PTSD can lead to symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and social isolation, and can be debilitating for those who suffer from the condition. At MAC Clinical Research, we are deeply committed to better understanding this mental health condition and supporting those affected by PTSD through our comprehensive research. We are highly experienced in conducting studies for many mental health conditions, including PTSD, OCD, MDD, and more, having led over 30 studies in psychiatry over the past 5 years. The dedication of our team of experts, including our psychiatrists and trained therapists, ensures the highest quality of standards for both our sponsors and our patients. Attending the annual HMS Psychiatry 2024 conference, as always, has proved to be both an enlightening and educational experience. The conference consistently advocates for and addresses the urgent need for mental health services and supports, especially as the mental health crisis continues to grow nationwide. One of the early presentations this morning, titled "Racism is a Form of Needless, Preventable Suffering," was particularly interesting, informative, and thought-provoking. Dr. Alisha Moreland-Capuia delivered a powerful message emphasizing the importance of "preventing preventable suffering." She reminded us that "exclusion is a part of needless suffering" and highlighted the idea that ‘just as trauma can be passed through multiple generations, so can healing!’ Dr. Moreland-Capuia urged everyone to "examine yourself.", …& that maybe as a country it is time to consider a ‘re-set’. [*The focus of Psychiatry 2024 is to review the rates of depression, suicide, anxiety disorders, and PTSD, and to highlight the increase in substance use disorders in recent years. Mental disorders are now one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.] #mentalhealthmatters🧠 #stayinformed📚 #inclusionmattersforeveryone #youarenotalone🙏 #weareallinthistogether🌎 #itsokaytonotbeokay😞 #HMSPsychiatry2024🩺

First, we will explore outdoor time as a mechanism to reduce mental health problems at a public health level, hearing the results of the Open Sky School randomised controlled trial conducted in Canada. Then, we will think about how Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) deliver treatments, with the “CAMHS goes wild” project showcasing outdoor treatment delivery for those with moderate mental health difficulties. Finally, we will demonstrate how nature and the outdoors can be incorporated for those with severe mental health problems, learning from the NatureWell CAMHS qualitative service evaluation. I understand that many patients suffering with what some call treatment-resistant PTSD, or ever worsening, post-trauma problems for years have lost hope that things could ever get better. Therefore, my approach towards treating PTSD does a lot of things; first and foremost, it gives patients hope. With practice, anyone can learn the skills they need to undo the biological and psychological impact of prior trauma. #ptsd #mentalhealthprofessional #psychologist #counselor #psychiatrist
