Starting today, www.Jetvision.ai, Jetstream’s e-logistics and financing platform, is available to Africa��s 50,000 freight forwarders and 2 million export and import businesses, who move the continent’s supply chains forward.
To celebrate Jetvision.ai release week, and the fifth anniversary of Jetstream’s first shipment from West Africa, I’m excited to countdown, over the next five days, breakthrough features on Jetvision.ai, and the backstories in our journey that led to them.
*Feature #5: Trade Finance with Inventory Control*
Jetvision.ai is a place for freight forwarders, and their business customers, to come together to build supply chains. The first growth tool on Jetvision is trade finance. Since 2021, Jetstream has partnered with banks, debt investors, and logistics vendors to disburse nearly $8MM in export and import loans in West Africa, at an average loan value of $17,000. These loans have financed over 430 agricultural exports and industrial, energy, medical and FMCG imports.

A few years ago, one of Jetstream’s most promising export customers showed us a purchase order from a large enterprise buyer in the USA. The purchase order was too big for his company to fulfill. His team had the skill and motivation to produce the goods. But he did not have enough working capital to pay for the volume of inputs required for the order. Our team reviewed the customer’s payment history (which was great), his long-track record of trading in the same commodity for years, and the fact that we, at Jetstream, controlled the movements of his cargo – from the time the truck collected the goods in the north of the country to the handoff to his buyer in the USA.
We understood that the data that we had on the customer’s payment and trade history, and the control that we had over his goods, lowered the risk that he wouldn’t pay us back. And he did pay us back, in the first loan and in subsequent loans. Over the next few years, Jetstream experimented with variations on trade finance structures. We found that our in-house customer data and our logistics network’s possession of cargo end-to-end, was the best and lowest cost way to lend responsibly to SMEs.
