Just finished my 6th year as principal and 2 years as an AP before that. Growing up I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. That was definitely fufilling- but being a principal is even better! I get to work with kids and teachers! Don’t get me wrong- the profession is hard! It is draining! But we keep coming back for more- because there is something about making the difference in the life of a child that makes those tough days better!

Stumbled on this picture some days ago and it has remained stuck in my heart and head. As a teacher, your role is exemplified in 1 Corinthians 3:6. For some children, you are Paul (planting), for others, you'll be Apollos(watering). For some others still, you'll simply tend, trim, prune or graft. As my mentor (Mrs. Judith Onowighose) will always say, the question at the end of the day is *did every child who came to you become a better version of themselves?*. It's a fact that not all children are *A* students or geniuses. However, did they leave you better than they met you? As we rest during this Summer break, dear educator, ask yourself if you've done well. Think about all the children you had this year and sincerely rate yourself. When you are done, ask yourself what you could have done different. How could you have responded differently to that *annoying parent*?, How could you have spoken differently to that struggling child?. As you prepare for the new year, take the necessary trainings. Invest in yourself and develop yourself. Learn how to be a better version of yourself both as a teacher and as an individual. Ensure that by the time September rolls around and you receive your new batch of children, you'll be in a better place than you were in July.

And we are back to School!!! A new session is upon us!!! There is so much excitement in the air as our children are resuming new classes from the long holiday and I know most parents are super excited about this new session. I pen down so points to help for smooth transition for both parents and Teachers.. 1. Allow time for thr children to process the new school resumption: Most kids has been at home for more than 7 weeks as such it might take a bit more time for them to ease back into the classroom settings especially for our special needs Children. 2. Don't set unrealistic goals for your child: As it's a new session don't over push your child beyond their capacity or trying to put them in classes beyond their academic abilities, try have a discussion with the School administrator, the teachers and reach a meaningful concession. Also do not agree for putting the child in a lower class due to their special needs challenges and that bring me to the final point. 3. Be sure to get your child an assessment done once you noticed their is red flag in their learning capacity, behavior and their overall development as a child. It’s been a wonderful summer with lot to do, but the school year is starting, good luck! 👍

This is my annual reminder that, if you will see a high school senior over the holidays, please do not ask them where they are going to college next year. They don't know right now and they don't need reminded of that. Here's what you can ask instead: ✨What class have you learned the most in this year? ✨Do you have a teacher who you really enjoy this year? What makes them great? ✨How 'bout Tayvis/Swelce/TNT/Trav+Tay? Did you see Harry Styles' new haircut? ✨What's your dream job? (this is a stretch but I'll let it slide if you don't ask follow up questions about college) ✨What are you looking forward to? I use "attendance questions" to kick off and end our scholar meetings -- they're silly/fun/interesting questions to ask. Trust me, any of them would be better than reminding them that they have a major life decision looming. (And if they *do* know where they're going to college, you can bet that they'll tell you.) But, most of all, just tell them you are proud of them. They need to hear it. (Don't we all?)
