Leaders with high emotional intelligence have this level of impact:
Mine was there for me when I had no one else.
I wasn’t going to post today because frankly, it’s been one of those difficult weeks we all have periodically.
But I’ve had so many heartfelt comments & messages about my Kind > Nice post this week, I felt inspired to share this.
When I accepted my role at Toyota about 7 years ago, that meant leaving my small hometown & relocating to DFW, Texas.
About 2 months into my new role, I experienced one of the hardest personal traumas of my life.
I have no family.
I was away from my small group of friends.
And the only person I could talk to was my leader.
I was reluctant but I needed to tell someone.
It was the 1st time I cried at work; which was very hard for me being a “tough” high-achiever at the time.
I didn't want to screw up my reputation or new position.
Nonetheless, my leader just listened to me.
He let me talk.
He acknowledged my feelings.
He encouraged me to do what I needed to do.
He gave me the space to just be & process.
He checked in on me weekly.
I will never forget how he helped me get through that situation.
Because he didn't have to. He chose to.
I got to thank him for this (& his influence on my leadership) in person this week & it was incredibly rewarding.
Leaders of all levels - you have so much more power than you realize.
And you might be a lifeline for someone.
Use your power to support your team.
You don’t have to have the answers.
You don’t have to play therapist.
All you have to do is listen.
And be kind. 💜
The below mentioned details highlight the importance of managers and leaders showing genuine appreciation and kindness towards their employees.
A few key points:
Effective leaders create a culture of recognition and appreciation, which boosts employee engagement, commitment, and motivation. They take the time to understand their team members' strengths and celebrate their achievements.
True leaders are not defined by their title, but by the positive impact and influence they have on others.
Qualities like integrity, humility, empathy, and inspirational communication are hallmarks of great leaders.
Kindness and the "human touch" can make a lasting impression on employees. Being remembered for your kindness, rather than just your success, is a powerful legacy to leave behind.
The results emphasize that leaders should never stop striving to be kind, caring, and supportive towards their employees. This approach fosters loyalty, trust, and a positive work environment.
In summary, the employee who remembers you for your kindness rather than just your achievements is a testament to your lasting impact as a leader. Maintaining this approach is crucial for creating a thriving, people-centric workplace.
To maintain a positive work environment, key strategies include:
1. Communication and Transparency: Keep employees informed, connected, and engaged through frequent updates and clear communication.
2. Employee Involvement: Encourage participation in decision-making processes to foster a sense of ownership and engagement.
3. Recognition and Appreciation: Show genuine appreciation for employees' efforts and achievements to boost morale and motivation.
4. Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts constructively, viewing them as opportunities for growth and improvement.
5. Team Building: Foster social connections through team-building activities and events to enhance camaraderie and collaboration.
By prioritizing these aspects, organizations can sustain a positive work environment that promotes well-being, productivity, and employee satisfaction.

Good #leadership is a conscious decision and #hardwork.
The responsibility here is huge. A bad boss has so much influence on his employees, we all know examples.
Having grown up at IKEA that places a very high value on leadership training, I have been able to learn a lot and continuously develop myself. At least I always tried to be #goodleader.
In my work today, I see many examples where leadership is just handed over without providing the necessary tools.
But Leadership training is key. Nobody wants an overburdened, unprepared and therefore unfortunately often bad boss.

Throughout my career as both a manager and a leader I have always had this mindset. About a month ago, I had one of my former employees text me. They told me how much the culture has changed and that they no longer feel appreciated or recognized. More importantly, they told me that they felt like a number on a board and no longer a person. As a leader, you are the inspirational factor! You can be that change, that positive impact, that difference maker in someones life. Get to know your employees! What are their interests? What motivates them? Who are their family members? How do they love to be recognized? As a leader don’t be a boss or a micro manager… be a person. Appreciate and be a tone setter. It is more important than ever. The landscape has changed. There’s a reason there is slow quitters and high turn over. The fix is easy… care!

EQ and empathy for the win. People will often forget exactly WHAT you say to them but they will remember how you made them feel. Be the difference you seek in your organization.

Last week I met up with a CHRO who I’ve known for many years, although never worked with. He shared what a profound impact I’d had on his career from when we first met. I had absolutely no idea!
I was struck by two things:
1. We often don’t know the impact we have on others careers - role modeling, providing career advice, and simply showing up for them in the right way.
2. Why don’t more people share the impact others have on them - it’s so energizing for the person receiving the compliment.
Never stop demanding high performance while also being a compassionate leader!
PS - Peter, thank you - you made my day, no, my week!

If someone’s first impression of you is a lasting impression…. Lead with Kindness!
It is simple to be kind.
It is so easy to become robotic in your business emotional state and interactions. Number one rule is to seperate emotions from buisness decisions, right? This mentality cannot define or bleed into an individuals leadership style. Leading in this emotionally disconnected manner fosters connectory boundaries that cause division within the workforce and clique like culture amongst employees.
In doing so you lose sight of the foundation that all good businesses make a priority. Customer service! This must be driven to the core of any company but not just for the external customer. Good internal customer service for all employees must be of equal importance in relation to external customers. This is the sole reason customers both internal and external choose to stay and feel empowered within your organizations.
