This role is not just a job; it's an exciting adventure where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping my personal brand’s online presence and storytelling & telling the Gymshark story. What you can expect: ✈️ Travel: Whether it's a LIFT event or visiting our suppliers. A huge role it certainly is...personally, I think this role ad indicates the current issue within social media. We have an everything-for-nothing attitude to social media and digital in the UK that discredits the impact of creativity. Brands' and individuals' presence on social has the potential to be the single most impactful and recurring promotional/marketing investment they make. And the demand for brands to have their social curated and managed continues to grow at a rapid rate. But just because it's social media and not billboards, doesn't mean it's easy... In fact, it NEVER stops, so it's arguably harder. One role for a challenge this size shouldn't really encompass these 5 differing skill sets. This role (like many social media roles I see) is going to require its social media person they be: A photographer A videographer A producer / editor (likely to V high standard) A brand strategist A data analyst + Operations/customer service Don't get me wrong, some of those skills 100% go together to form a cohesive digital marketing role. But I think (in the UK especially) we need to get real. Even in an AGENCY, those skills are split between roles, or at the very least are achieved within teams. Don't try to cram all your marketing under one umbrella to spend the absolute minimum, yet expect an impressive impact and ROI. I believe this role will require an extended creative team at their disposal, certainly an assistant to some degree, or an agency that can cover all the bases. We need to start seeing and crediting social media investment the same way we see advertising investment, and in the UK we need to start embracing advertising investment full stop 😂

Potentially an unpopular opinion: The job advert that sparked a debate in the past few days on LinkedIn and triggered many marketing professionals… …although I understand where most of you are coming from (it seems like a lot of responsibilities for one person), working with Ben building his own personal brand (not Gymshark’s Ben’s!!) is a wonderful opportunity and will be a great achievement for someone out there. Someone who sees this as a dream job! We all have different expectations (both from an employer and an employee side) and that’s the beauty of it. You might think this job should require a whole team, while someone else thinks this job is everything they could ever wish for. Be wary of affinity brands that are constantly hiring. It may not be growth related. It could be code/indication of high turnover rate especially if they use PR tactics like “Voted Best Place To Work” to spin the narrative. Even the smartest marketers fall for a good story.

I have never heard this, but I had to take a look again to think about it. When choosing your job, it shouldn't be something that you loathe when you think about going in. Choose to work somewhere where you enjoy doing your job. I personally am grateful for the opportunity to work at a company where I not only love what I do but I love the people I work with! I often hear people that say they don't like what they do, or they just don't like their job and I see so many opportunities either ahead of them at the job or they have so many qualities that give them limitless options for other jobs. Don't limit yourself because you feel stuck or like you have to be somewhere! Find the job that you enjoy! When we love what we do, customers will love what we do! When we give our 100%, we will see more people and connection which will lead to more long-term relationships in the workplace with co-workers and/or customers. We create the environment we work in.
