I help career driven executives find their Dream Job | Global Executive Search | Career Coach | Evidence Based Hiring | Talent Intelligence |
Spoke to an internal recruiter a couple of weeks ago at a HUGE consumer goods company, he told me SPEED is the most important thing for him… Fair enough I thought. Then he continued… ‘Yeah, I give the job out to loads of recruiters, and then its first come, first serve basis.’ Hmmm… “Do you think you could be missing out on the great talent?” I replied. “No, I think we get the best candidates, I pre-screen them.” “Not sure I understand your reply.” I thought. Yesterday I spoke to the Hiring manager. “How’s the search going?” I said. “Struggling a little too be honest.” (Or in other words we’ve got no candidates and we’re in the sh!t!”) SPEED IS GOOD, GETTING IT RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE IS EVEN BETTER. #recruitment #leadership #hiring #humanresources #management

Coming at Hiring from an ENABLEMENT perspective... 🧔 The Hiring Manager wants someone who can be impactful immediately. They only have so much time and effort to spend in 1:1 time bringing that candidate up to speed. The less qualified / experienced the candidate, the greater the amount of time required to enable them on culture, process, product/service, and industry. 🏢The Company needs to consider every new hire as an investment in their future. They need to have someone capable of learning, improving, and moving with the flow of the company. 🤖The Candidate would require an environment that (1) respects where they are in their career (experience, skills, interests), and (2) has a platform to help them move forward within it. Whatever the BETTER WAY TO HIRING is... it must include a strong thread of Enablement. 1️⃣ Hiring Managers should work with learning professionals to help them understand what it is going to take to get their new hire ready to be productive; 2️⃣ The Company should ensure proper funding for the Enablement organizations to create a culture of learning for all employees. 3️⃣ The Candidate should ask questions about enablement during the interview process and then hold them accountable for it.

Is it just me, or is the conventional hiring process broken? Hear me out. For the hiring manager: 👉🏻 You have to make a decision on someone based on a few hours of interaction, balancing cultural and role fit at the same time 👉🏻 Yet the pressure to find the perfect candidate is immense For the company: 👉🏻 You need everyone that joins to add value 👉🏻 The company cannot afford to waste $s or time For the candidate: 👉🏻 You have to balance the pressure to find work with jumping in to the wrong role, and it can be difficult to have an honest conversation during the hiring process 👉🏻 Your time is precious and there is only so much you can do to persuade Seriously - there must be a better way than this. Where people get matched to the best role and company for them. Introducing...... hired at first sight 😆 A committee of experts takes each candidate in turn, and matches them to roles and companies.
