Next Generation Network Technology for Avionics Communication (NTAC) Subcommittee Nov. 14-16, 2023 | Bowie, Maryland Airborne data communication networks for the latest aircraft models rely on Ethernet-type communications (such as ARINC 664 Part 7). The standardization of an Ethernet compatible fieldbus is necessary to complement existing ARINC 664 standards. Additionally, the standardization is necessary to reduce the number of different technologies used for communication, simplify onboard communication interfaces, and remove costly gateway functions. This standardization effort will investigate available solutions in #aerospace or other industries and select one or several solutions which provide the required compatibility and support for network services while being suitable in cost and complexity with the fieldbus usage domain. Examples: When a pilot talks with the tower, when the ADSB-Out signal is broadcast to another plane, and when the flight attendant gets on the PA system to talk to passengers - these are all avionics. INSTRUMENTS are concerned with specifics of the plane itself, such as airspeed, pitch, flap position, and engine temperature. Instruments often end with the word “Indicator”. If you were flying on Mars, you would still need instruments to function. But not avionics, because there is no airport tower there. Not yet. #brucemiller #av101 #aviation #aerospace
