Thanks to Marceline B. at Het Financieele Dagblad for the interview and the article about the launch of LUMO Rise Fund! LUMO Labs is one of the few tech investors that explicitly focuses on impact. “Many funds are tech first, impact second,” said Andy Lurling. “For us, the two are equally important. Every euro that our companies earn must make a positive contribution.” Some highlights from the article: 🔸 LUMO Labs launched LUMO Rise Fund to invest in European tech companies that make a positive social contribution. LUMO has already committed around €25 million and expects to raise around €100 million within a year. This will make the new fund one of the largest Dutch impact funds. 💪 🔸 With LUMO Labs’ first fund, they invested a few hundred thousand to just over €1 million in more than twenty tech companies. LUMO Labs can now invest up to around €5 million in companies. LUMO Labs expects to finance a total of 30 to 35 companies. 🔸 There are quite a few companies in the Netherlands that fit the picture LUMO is looking for. “As far as artificial intelligence is concerned, we have to tolerate countries like England or France being ahead of us, but we are doing far from bad,” Andy said. What he believes could be improved is the speed at which technologies are brought to market, as a lot of research from knowledge institutions remains on the shelf for too long. 📣 Exciting news for AI startups: Nederlandse AI Coalitie | NL AIC and Kickstart AI are organizing the first edition of the National AI Challenge! Both organizations promote the development and application of AI in the Netherlands. As a first step in their collaboration, they are rolling out the National AI Challenge for participants in the NL AIC. The aim is to tackle concrete challenges companies or social organizations face in practice and to solve them with the help of AI. 🚀 Companies that are not participants of the NL AIC can also register their use cases but only with one of the current participants. How does it work?  Participants of the NL AIC can register for the challenge until August 16.  After a pre-selection and technical check by the Kickstart AI project team, the Top 5 finalists will advance to selection day on September 9th. (Location TBD) The winner will be announced during selection day. In October, a team of experts and engineers will work with the winner on its use case. 🙌 More good news! Andy Lurling will be on the jury of the inaugural competition and is really looking forward to hearing pitches from the Top 5.
