The Overhead Wire podcast with Jeff Wood "Narrow the Lanes!" Nighttime design includes not only lighting but complete design of cities at night the way we naturally do for the daytime. It was revelatory to have conventional thoughts debunked by Shima Hamidi in the description of her report: A National Investigation of the Impacts of Lane Width on Traffic Safety - collecting data for 1,100 #streets - not only that narrowing streets can create more, safer space for bikes and #pedestrians but also the complex factors of design. She includes contextual design factors, trees, obstacles, and amenities. Another grain of wisdom: "design features first, then speed limits" This is the kind of thinking I wish nighttime designers (AKA, #architects, #landscapearchitects , #lightingdesigners , #transportengineers, #mobilityexperts, #transportationgeeks, etc) would DO! In July 2023, SinBerBEST was featured on an episode of CNA's Talking Point series asking the question, "What Is The Best Temperature To Set My Air-Conditioner?". We were really happy to be a part of the local (and global) conversations on sustainable airconditioning use and building energy efficiency. SinBerBEST pioneered the Hybrid Cooling principle mentioned in this video; by setting your aircon a couple of degrees higher than you normally would and by using fans (ceiling, desk, or stand) to provide some air movement, you not only save energy but can potentially feel more comfortable than at lower temperatures. https://lnkd.in/ggbEcc9Q
