I’m thrilled to announce just one more important step towards Vale’s commitment on reducing its GHG emissions! Vale and Komatsu have signed a pioneering agreement to develop and test, in partnership with Cummins Inc., dualfuel haul trucks, powered by diesel and ethanol. These will be the world’s first trucks of their size, with payloads of 230 to 290 tons, to run on #ethanol, in a joint investment in research and development. The Dual Fuel Program will contribute to the achievement of #Vale’s goals of reducing scope 1 and 2 by 33% by 2030 and thus becoming net-zero by 2050. Over the next two years, the project is anticipated to include the development, testing and implementation of ethanol-diesel engines manufactured by #Cummins. Diesel emissions from mine operations account for 15% of Vale’s direct CO2 emissions. Among an array of mine equipment, the haul truck is the biggest consumer of diesel and as such, the biggest emitter. It is important to take advantage of Brazil’s competitive edge in biofuels, as we are one of the world’s largest ethanol producers. With this partnership, Vale can reduce its direct emissions by 2030 with a competitive solution, and also contribute to strengthening this low-emission industry in #Brazil. Thanks a lot to all Vale teams who are involved in on this important initiative! https://lnkd.in/evGaVnhV
This is one of the best decarbonization initiatives in my humble opinion! There are a lot more "sexy" options such as hydrogen and electric which are not as efficient and the development seems further away. Ethanol is simple, ready, available in the market, and most importantly, clean. Congratulations for everyone involved!
Ludmila, congrats. It is a good initiative, however the bi-fuel doesn’t guarantee what the client will put inside the tank. This is why I can’t agree with Rota 2030 and Mover programs. When we analysis the Brazilian auto market, only 30% of drivers use it inside, even when this fuel is more competitive against gas. Another critical point that Vale and Komatsu must consider is the autonomy for the operations. Specially for cars, this is one of the challenges to move to ethanol. However, as I told before this is a good movement when we consider the emissions of diesel and it is good to see Vale leading it.
Congratulations Ludmila! With your leadership we have been making outstanding progress! Happy to be part of this team!
Amando ver essas iniciativas nascendo 👏🏻
Great news! Congratulations to everyone involved in this innovative initiative! The partnership between Vale, Komatsu, and Cummins to develop dual-fuel haul trucks is an important milestone in reducing GHG emissions. This project not only places Vale at the forefront of sustainability but also leverages Brazil's leadership in biofuel production. The reduction of direct emissions and the strengthening of the low-emission industry in Brazil are remarkable achievements. Keep up the excellent work!

3wMuito legal a iniciativa. Excelente Vale!
