Vehicle style, features, design trends & even powertrain selection evolves over the years. Today in the wheel-end, a new trend is to larger wheels, adding weight. How about weight reduction? Lightweighting comes in many forms, some ideas costing more than others. Saving weight alone is a difficult business case because the OEMs have a shelf full of lightweighting options that are already tested & proven.
One low-cost option to reduce weight is a stronger iron alloy in the brake rotor. Stronger iron = thinner walls = reduced weight. In addition to weight savings enabled niobium-alloying, this rotor also offers longer life, and with FNC, corrosion resistance & pursuing low dust emissions.
