📊 Sharing new findings from our partners at Candid. They've just released The State of Diversity in the U.S. Nonprofit Sector #report, providing comprehensive data on U.S. nonprofits. Some valuable insights into the demographics of nonprofit workers include:   🔎 Organizations with expenses of $50,000 or less have the highest proportion of CEOs of color, transgender CEOs and CEOs who identify as having a disability. 🔎 Women of color lead 28% of nonprofits with revenues of less than $50,000 while 40% of nonprofit organizations with revenues more than $25M are led by white men. 🔎 Median revenue for majority white-led organizations is 54% higher than it is for the majority BIPOC-led ones.   Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gdrS-YGa   To continue the conversation about the importance of data in shaping equitable philanthropic practices, I invite you to join Philanthropy Northwest and leaders from Candid and the The James Irvine Foundation on June 7. Many nonprofits exist to improve the lives of women, children and other disadvantaged groups. For me, this is exactly why it's so important to have women at the table where decisions are being made. Similarly, having a board that includes at least some representation of the people the organization serves can be really powerful. At Athena, I work with nonprofits of varying sizes - rather than entering into a binary gender debate, I believe we need to focus on fostering collaboration and inclusivity to drive meaningful change. So how do we empower more women to ascend the career ladder to executive roles in larger nonprofits, while encouraging men to address the issues affecting their direct communities?

Simultaneously, communities around the country are facing restrictions related to reproductive choices, LGBTQIA+ rights, and immigration, while freedom of speech by nonprofits on various issues including Palestinian human rights is being scrutinized. Feeling more fired up than ever to continue in my work of granting access to life changing opportunities to our next generation of women 💪🏽 As a member of the St. Mary’s Academy, I had the pleasure of attending Mount Saint Mary's University ‘s Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California last week. There was astonishing data covering the gender earnings gap (i.e black women would have to work until their 95 to make the same as a white man by 65), women in business, women’s financial health (i.e 80% of single mothers with children under six don’t make enough to meet basic needs), women’s health, and women’s role in the home and care work (i.e invisible work and unequal wages). There were insights and solutions provided by experts: + Judy Belk, writer and philanthropic advisor + Alex Cohen, political anchor + Gayle Goldin, Women’s Bureau, US Dept of Labor + Dr. Nicole Haggard, director for the Center for the Advancement of Women + Frederique Irwin, National Women’s History Museum + Dr. Pooja Lakshmin, psychiatrist + Holly Martinez, CA Commission on the Status of Women and Girls + Holly Mitchell, LA County Supervisor + Valerie Red-Horse Mohl, Known + Nancy O’Reilly, philanthropist + Eve Rodsky, author + Zakiya Thomas, ERA Coalition and the Fund of Women’s Equality + Samantha Vient, Ellevest Wealth Management It was an amazing time! I love being a woman. I love being surrounded by women. And I love empowering women. I look forward to taking some of the action steps recommended. Truth to Power! So many conversations around this issue… in so many settings… and this article is the real deal! Fund Black women led organizations. The work requires time, planning, time (!) and flexible resources. Funders need to understand and support a fair process. #fundblackfeminists
