The Chief Economist of the CAREC Institute, Dr. Hans Holzhacker, presented at the 21st Transport Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on the CAREC Institute’s activities related to transport corridors in the CAREC region. He presented CAREC Institute’s research activities in the area of transport connectivity with a focus on the CAREC Corridors Performance, Measurement and Monitoring, Restoration and Development of Air Transport between China and Six Selected CAREC Countries, and intended new research on containerization, as well Institute’s capacity building activities on Road Asset Management and Road Safety. We’re proud to share the great results of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme! The CEF projects: GreenMov - Green Mobility data models and services for smart ecosystems, ODALA: Open Source Data Lakes for Smart Cities, and CEF-INTERSTAT joined forces to deploy Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs), create a European ecosystem for public administrations and private companies and make the Digital Single Market work in practice. #FIWARE played a significant role providing #FIWAREContextBroker as a core for technological implementation for each of these EU projects. Impressive results were presented at the Closing Event of the CEF Projects at the #FIWARESummit23, 12-13 June, Vienna. The project leaders showcased the remarkable achievements and groundbreaking solutions developed through GreenMov, ODALA, and INTERSTAT. Would you like to know more? At the World Road Congress held in #Prague from 2 to 6 October 2023, PIARC awarded prizes for the most outstanding papers in eight different categories. The aim of the PIARC - World Road Association Prizes is to encourage innovation, recognize professional competence, highlight topics of particular interest, promote the interests of developing countries and encourage long-term thinking about the future of transport systems. As part of the 27th World Road Congress, a major call for papers was launched on 49 themes that complemented the themes of the Technical Committees. More than 700 authors responded to this call and presented their work during the Congress. Eight authors were awarded a PIARC prize for the best papers in each of the following categories: - #Young-Professionals (under 35), sponsored by Canada-Québec - Authors from #LMICs (low- and middle-income countries), sponsored by Japan - #Road-Design, Construction, #Maintenance and Operation, sponsored by Germany - #RoadSafety, sponsored by the United States - #ClimateChange and Resilience, sponsored by Australia and New Zealand - #Sustainable-Mobility, sponsored by Spain - Best #Innovation, sponsored by Belgium - #Organisation and #Administration, sponsored by South Korea The international jury was made up of the General Secretariat, the Communications Commission, the PIARC Strategic Plan Commission and a representative from each country sponsoring an award: The winners: Pedro Fernández (Spain), Etienne Willam (Belgium), Whe Kyoung Kim (South Korea), Geoff Allan, Jim Betts and Nicole Rosie (Australia and New Zealand), Yasuhiro Ishihara (Japan), Michael Puschel (Germany), Frédéric Pellerin (Canada-Quebec) and Gloria Shepherd (United States).
